How can I find out what this svchost does, why it keeps popping up when I kill it, and why it keeps hogging a pretty constant 25% of my CPU?
ProcessXP, as you can see, only tells me the 0x0 is processing shit, which I can't make sense of.
File -> view details for all users (elevate). You'll probably see that the thread in question belongs to Windows Update, which is one of the services hosted in svchost (check the "services" tab to see which services this instance is hosting) and loves to keep a core busy while it's trawling through update databases.
Killing does nothing because that looks like a crash and the affected services will just be restarted. Fix the underlying issue (if it is WU doing it, check its logfile).

Open up task manager, go to processes, find the svchost, right click it and click go to service(s).
If it read wuauserv it's for Windows update.

You're just projecting, OP. Next time take five minutes out of your life to google it first so you don't look silly.
Windows update is pretty much worthless, disable it. You can always download something manually if you somehow need to.

Yeah, like a botnet client or a BIOS virus.

I think this will do the job. Atleast you can see it like a tree which processes it's holding and originating from.

I have no idea what this comment is trying to say.
>>156589
You should probably use Windows Update then.
>>156798
That struck me as a likely intent, but the sarcasm doesn't add up. There's no lexical target in the source post referable as being like a "botnet client or BIOS virus".

"Like", in that sentence, means "for instance". There's no comparison, so there's no need for an indirect object.
Tryhard ESL pls go and stay go.

I dunnere, but I'm sure you could do under
>>156846
That is literally a comparison, but whatever. If you have a point to make about Windows Update, make it.
