String theory is pseudoscience. This 11 dimension crap is just a giant circlejerk that will almost certainly never actually be proven. String theory in an of it self is not at all scientific it has no basis in experimentation. It's almost like religion or any other non-sensical belief. It can't be proven but it can't be disproven kind of thing. Does not mean it is at all likely especially when people who work in the field spend their entire careers projecting emotional beliefs into their work.
That said, time isn't exactly a spacial dimension but when you throw relativity into the equation, especially general relativity, time is very extremely similar to spacial dimensions. And a lot of the laws of physics branch out from this similarity. All of the conservation laws can be explained by Noether's theorem and the symmetries between time and space in general relativity.
There is definitely curvature in space time, or at least some phenomena which exactly replicates curvature. A 4th dimensions doesn't have to exist to make this happen but it makes calculations a little easier to imagine it that way.
>>1003714
Time is NOT a spacial dimension in GR. If you want me to point you toward some textbooks for you to read up on it, I'll be happy. Since you clearly don't know what you're talking about, you can check out Gravity: An Introduction to Einstein's General Relativity. It does require basic knowledge of how vector calculus and linear algebra, but that's clearly not above you, isn't it.
>>1023158
Every part of human behave after reaching "wall"(point where it cant understand something) it develop need of creating fictional character or state that give him argument to push it forward instead of admit to failure.
Thats why we created God, Buddha, Allah and all other, even scientific bullshit, because we dig some topic so long that we would believe anything just to push it again, because we dont know what to do anymore.
For me some scientific ideas, especially about space and life forms is just the same bullshit as God or Disney cartoons.
We barely know our own life, existence and even our own Earth.
I always remind people that believe in those theories, that not that long time ago(looking at how long we exist), people though that its impossible to go faster than 1000km/h that cell is smallest part in universe, that there would be no shittier style of clothing and hair than this from 80' years
And most important that Earth is flat... and people, especially ""scientist"" back there believe that so much, that they would give their own life for it.
But now people think that they know everything and they have tools to understand everything, and they can make up theories and spend rest of their lives to "study it", but for most of time it turn out that its another bullshit.

Not wanting to say that I take science on faith, but its the best (most consistent in its predictions) method we have from sorting the bullshit claims from the not bullshit.
If theres a claim you consider both scientific and bullshit, I would ask for further detail.
What do you mean?
I don't think the flat earth was considered a critical theory to any except the most confused and sheltered.
What tools do you mean?
Philosophy is probably the best toolset for dissecting ideas, and science seems so far to be the best toolset for evaluating the facts of the natural world.

>>1023181
Bullshit.
Flat earth was never a scientific theory. Hell, it was barely even considered by most of the time. The Catholic Church pushed it hard - not because they thought the world was flat, but because the bible said - paraphrased - that everyone would see Jesus descending from heaven. How could that happen on a round world, so forth. Thus the push for flat earth idea.

That has nothing to do with space-time. Like the other guy said, string theory is almost psuedo-science (there are so many solutions that you are almost guaranteed to find one that matches our universe).
The 'higher dimensions' he's talking about are the things that give our universe shape, eg that it can be infinite but bound as a hypersphere. Take the analogy of walking around the globe, you're on a 2d plane but the object is 3d.

what actually makes me sad about this, is that they call that penguin, or penguins that do this deranged. Well if we're getting into the semantics of faith, you do realize things that can even be studied and observed currently (not just string theories) are based on the faith that our subjective view is something to even be called accurate in the first place. And that's why we explore. We're beings that seek answers and, while some of us are content with something easy to placate our worries, others desire more. Moving forward, expanding our knowledge, learning how the universe works; these are amazingly noble pursuits.
The search for truth is ingrained into every one of us. You can choose to look at it with cynicism, see it as pointless because, truthfully, we may never know everything there is to know. But that's part of the fun of it. A true sense of accomplishment comes not from doing that which is easy, but from what is difficult. I hope that you can see the merit in gradual advancement and of creating a better world than that which you came into, if not? I hope you at least can appreciate the lifelong endeavors of millions of people who are striving to make your life better.

This isn't "population control" as it might seems. This is more looks like population recovery. And besides of that wolves was brought there by humans. I mean, if the whole post was a trying to convince me in the necessity of human population control - that is really out of the question. Not only because humans isn't really included in ecosystem as any wild species does, but because our conscious actions is actually was included.
Neither it can be "nature population control", due to recorded results which shows actual grow of ecosystem and its recovery through human actions. I assumed that wolves abandoned these places because of humans, and because of them was returned again. So, in both cases, in previous status of park, and after wolves arrived - the main reason was humans. For me it's actually shows that even minor attempts to disturb the ecosystem might be catastrophic. So, why the hell evolution create such creatures as us, whose actions can be reflected in nature in so destructive way?

That is population control. And it also shows that a lot of other things improve for everyone when people get out of poverty.
Honestly, that was some really good research and presenting right thur.

Clueless here, what's wrong about dead reckoning and what replaced it.

I've been here too long

I don't think the wolves left so much as got decimated by us.
As far as your evolution thing, idk. I do know that mother nature will have no problem once we either go extinct or our numbers are greatly reduced after the nuclear exchange.

Dead reckoning is a form of navigation where you go "Well, I was here. I was going this way this fast. If I'm at point A, Point A is 30 miles from point C, and I'm going 15 mph to point C...
...it stands to reason I'd be 15 miles in the direction towards point C after an hour.
It's a terrible idea for ships, let alone fucking missiles. Missiles use fucking baro.

The guy did a TED talk that's worth a watch. All the spiel and rhetoric sounds like snake-oil sales (imagine a future when blah, people aren't broken it's technology that's flawed, etc) but he's standing there (and walking and running) on the technology he's talking about. Mad.
>>988184
time is a dimension needed to "build" existence as it is needed for objects to move and thus stuff can happen.
1d ...
2d make a circle
3d make a sphere
4d move it around (time)
>>1049975
isn't it a spatial dimension tho, because if you have time you can move a sphere around in space, thus time enables more locations for that object.
>>1055377
just to clarify: time adds more coordinates to the location of an object. More locations = more space.

That will only be a reality if they manage to create true limb regeneration. Prosthetics might reach the point to being equal or superior to natural limbs, but you will never get rid of the feeling of having something that doesnt belong to your body, especially when you have to give it maintenance or change it due to wear.
I mean, they may even create limbs that can be disguised and have the appearance of a natural limb, but psychologically you will always know you aren't complete anymore which would not happen if you had it regenerated.
>>1055373
According to your simplistic explanation:
Does time cease to exist if I don't move said sphere?
>>981834
omg thats amazing. I heard a theory cats think we are cats too!.
>>1055456
this.
To us we have partial experience of the 4th dimension, we only move one way along it and its not our choice.
We experience in a 3.5 D universe.
4D would have time as something you could travel to, so there is no forwards or backwards for them.
>>1005712
cats see humans as cats. they never seen a cat mask b4 hence the fear it doesnt refute imo
>>1055989
that's a rather subjective view just because an artificial arm would feel wrong/off to you doesn't mean others wouldn't be fine with it. also total limb regeneration is way farther off than a prosthetic that is equal or greater in function to an organic one.
>>1005712
refuting what?
you'd bitch the fuck out too if someone you've never seen before, who is also at least 10x your size, was suddenly inside your home
>>1055989
so, they've got prosthetics that you can actually feel through, completely emulating an actual limb, there's no reason why you couldn't eventually get a prosthetic that feels natural
also if you were so inclined you would also still feel incomplete after being regenerated since it's still not your 'original' limb/etc, maybe its the same makeup, structure, etc as say, your other arm, but it's always going to be newer than the rest of your body
>>1054067
>I assumed that wolves abandoned these places because of humans
You assumed right. Wolves were extirpated from the area because ranchers didn't like them.
>why the hell evolution create such creatures as us
You say that as if it was a conscious decision. Also:
>anthropomorphizing nature
>>1056040
They don't see us as cats, they process our faces the same way they process cat faces but they are very aware of the differences.
>>1055996
Time ceases to exist when everything in the universe stops moving
Time is literally the movement of matter through space as observed by an observer, which is why time is also relative to things like gravity and shit
Look at anything that moves and you are literally looking at time

Thanks
>>1055681

>If we could capture just 0.1% of the ocean's kinetic energy caused by tides, we could satisfy the current global energy demand over 5 times
First of all, these harvest *wave* energy, not tidal energy. If you were to lift buoys up with the tides, you'd just get once its potential energy (mass*gravitational constant*height) per cycle (twice a day). You harvest tidal energy by letting an estuary fill up, and emptying it through a turbine.
As for the numbers: https://www.withouthotair.com/Electronic.html. Pages 73-75,103-112,307-310: we could harvest about 2% of our current energy demand from waves. Pages 81-87,103-112,311-320: we could harvest about 5% of our current energy demand from tides.

I was almost on board until William H. Buckley showed up. He's attempting to invalidate clear gaps by elevating the statistical significance of what are, today even moreso than when this clip was captured, outliers.
More blacks are educated than ever before.
More women are choosing careers over marriage than ever before.
And the gap is just as wide as ever.

don't forget it loses mass as it uses fuel relative to its thrust which is proportional to its acceleration. Also as the fuel burns the density and mass distribution changes, aswell as random pockets of turbulence and vatying air pressure require constant counter adjustments to the control surfaces to stay on track
