>Your wife is dead
>Can I go talk to her?
>No, she's dead
I thought this was supposed to be a comedy scene and then the second half was serious
>>975734
Pulp Fiction, it's actually the director
>>975739
Sounds like you have never lost someone close to you, shock is a really powerful thing. Used to think same shit of movies before my mother suddenly passed away.
you guys are pretty shit at editing
>>975312
>>975739
It's called shock. Real ER doctors have said that, when people hear the bad news of the very sudden and unexpected death of a loved one, this kind of reaction is just as common as the regular "immediately-overcome-with-grief" reaction that Hollywood has taught us to expect. Especially when it's a mysterious death like this. Sometimes they have to tell a dead patient's loved one three or more times before the realization finally sinks in.
At first, Mitch Emhoff (Matt Damon) seems to be nodding along to the news, but is ignoring everything the Dr is saying under the pretense that it's probably medical-jargon he wouldn't understand anyway. But when the Dr explicitly tells him that the reason *why* he can't speak to his wife is because she is dead, his expression goes from one of extreme-concern to one of pure shock and confusion. She seemed like she merely had the flu until only about an hour before she died. He has to look over to the social worker for confirmation before he can even begin to comprehend that she really is gone; The first stage of grief is denial.
Then, when he asks what it was that killed her, we see frustration and anger begin to build up in Mitch's face as he realizes the doctor can only give him a best guess, this time using *actual* medical-jargon that Mitch doesn't seem to know what to make of. When the doctor mentions herpes, Mitch lets out a small outburst, yelling at the doctor and demanding a real explanation; the second stage of grief is anger.
That clip is my favorite scene from Contagion, and honestly is some of the best acting I've ever seen Matt Damon do. I'll never understand why some people say he is a bad actor, especially those who cite this particular scene as an example of why.

The girl who plays his daughter seems like a pretty good actress herself here. Haven't seen her in anything else though
>>975974
I thought that movie was pretty solid. Scene had no problems for me.
First post ITT, btw
I don't think Damon is a bad actor, but I think he is a very lazy one. He NEEDS a good director to shine, otherwise he just acts like Matt Damon, which is to say, he doesn't /act/
Case in point:
>The Departed
A convincing attempt at portraying a conflicted double agent who is torn between is loyalties to his boss and the new life he's living
vs
>Interstellar
Yes, yes yes, yes
(or whatever that phoned in delivery was)
I even like Nolan, but he's way too hit or miss.

Having good source material is the most important aspect to making an actor's performance shine in a film, IMO. The direction is important too, but mostly because too much micromanagement by the director can oftentimes make an actor's performance much worse.
If you read interviews with the cast members of his films, you'll see that Soderbergh prefers to collaborate with each of his actors individually, so they both share the same vision of how their scenes should play out.
>>976039
Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of all of his work, but I definitely agree that Soderbergh takes care in what he makes.
trigger warning :^)
>>976143
this is much more brutal without sound. That music makes no sense in this context
>>976143
I know it's just a movie and all, but he has a reload every 2 shots and not one person decides to rush him at that point?
Am I missing something?
>>975827

>>976209
That's called irony of tone you uncultured swine
>>975701
If you think that's not funny, try this clip that aired in March, 2001.

I always loved how they never asked where he got a bucket of "Christian Blood" from.

The virus' origin was never meant to be post movie speculation, it's supposed to be realistic so it shows it very explicitly in a realistic way.
One can speculate on how the disease was transmitted to Dr Mears, though

I was on mushrooms when I first saw it in theaters, and I vividly remember it the music producing this fucking amazing atmosphere for the film. You didn't see the monsters much but it made it so much more awesome when you did. And all the drama was decent even on a sober re-watch

It's like JAWS, but JAWS is the good guy with a nagging conscience being dragged along because JAWS needs to eat some Cartel fishies on domestic soil. And, like in JAWS, you know the chomp and the blood is coming, but you're not anxious, you're anticipatory, wanting them to fuck up somebody who deserves it.

I honesty don't understand why anyone would genetically modify a zoo animal to go invisible.
What's the point in making something that you want people to see, not able to see it?
>>989637
I think it was unintentional because they used cuttlefish DNA
>>987670
Locals piss on the Blarney stone
>>989526
I unironically enjoy Jurassic World.
Jurassic Park is one of my all time favourite movies. I understand that World is no where near as good as Park but at the same time it wasn't trying to be. It's a completely different genre of movie.
My biggest gripe was the music placement. Too much of the theme was used on the human scenes and not the dinosaur scenes.
>>989637
Cuttlefish DNA was used to increase growth rate. Camouflage was an unknown side effect.
>>984441
guess you never saw the first Cloverfield

I don't want to sound like an ass, but it seems really weird for people I can only guess are Russians speaking with Irish (or is it Scottish?) accents.
I literally have no idea who made this or what it's from, so maybe those bits of info would explain why.
