Wouldn't the swords break or get chinks when blocking like that?
And is it normal to do so much unnecessary spinning before a hit?
>>960296
Theyre recreating old martial arts, so its better to fuck up your sword than get stabbed or cut.
>>960296
>unnecessary
It's about momentum, it's easier on the wrist and faster to swing the weapon around rather than come to a dead stop and readjust .
>>960296
>Wouldn't the swords break or get chinks when blocking like that?
Normal swords might but those are practice swords and are made to be durable rather than being able to hold an edge. You could bend those things a full loop and they'd just flex back with the force of an angry god.
Even so, swords can be replaced and if someone strikes at you and your choice is blocking badly or getting cut, you block badly.

these're cool, but next time please just have one 40-second-long 800x450 webm rather than five 8-second-long 1280x720 webms.
Also, 128 kbps audio bitrate is extreme overkill for audio quality when you are encoding webm audio, as Vorbis is much more efficient per-kbps than, say, mp3-audio. I made the first 3 webms ITT (plus >>956251 ), and I used 45 kbps audio at 44100 Hz for all of them. I do this for every webm I make and they all sound fine.

Yeah but I personally think that Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan (albeit being incredible movies) make it all seem too glorious. They almost romanticize the war, whereas movies like fury basically say "for some people, there was no glory, they just died a fiery death and that was it"
I think we need more war movies like Jarhead and Fury, so that people stop thinking that war is this super aesthetic and honorable thing, and start realizing that although it will always be necessary, there is nothing romantic about it.

>>959776
Man. You wehraboos are so ridiculous. Any half competent kendo or rapier fencer would nuke you from space. HEMAtomas are so clunky and lack the basic understanding of swordplay and writ their claims from half cocked books they read thinking they found the secrets of European long sword fighting.
Here's a tip: your shit only worked against each other. The Mongolian army fucked you with 1/100th the size.
>>966265
>Why does a machine of the future needs to do spray and pray so much?
But he doesn't. Out of all of the shots in that clip, there's only one where he does a spray-and-sweep (the room with the desks and windows). In every single other shot, he's just doing short bursts, and every single bullet connects with his target.
>>956251
Thanks. I just watched the movie. Awesome.
>>967008
This is actually pretty cool, they just need better costumes.
>>969134
Lol.
These techniques weren't military. They were for personal defense. Fiore's manuscripts were about how to defend yourself against vagabonds, assassins, drunken fools, jealous suitors, and gang's of wayward youth.
Also, everyone who actually studies the manuscripts admits there are huge gaps in the knowledge. The writers had a lot of assumptions built into their writings based on the times. Recreating these forms is a combination of martial arts and historical exploration.
As much as I love the rapier, it just can't create as much significant damage as a hand and a half sword. Sure, you'll get in a couple good stabs and some superficial cuts, but killing with a rapier can take a fucking long time unless you drive the point through your opponents skull.
A hand and a half sword on the other hand, can shred muscle, deliver concussive blows with a shit ton of force, and be used as a lever to crack bone (if you are able to grapple your opponent).
The vast majority of HEMA organizations are structured like clubs, rather than schools. There is no standard of practice yet. However, if you are interested in learning a bit more from someone who approaches the study very eruditely, Guy Windsor has a school in Helsinki that is absolutely outstanding. Google it and watch some of his videos.

I thought it was pretty good atleast.
>>966265
>machine of the future
implying a pipebomb wouldn't end him
>>952744
whats the context?
>>969134
Isn't the entire point of HEMA to be historically accurate and investigative rather than an actual martial art though? Like the point is to see what old european manuals say, test them out and then see if it's possible that the manual actually reflects reality or if it's just McDojo tier bullshit peddled by charlatans.
Motherfucking shootemup is my movie.

kendo is pretty much comparable to HEMA only it has a lot of pointless rules built into its scoring system
a rapier fencer doesnt exist outside HEMA, olympic fencing uses a foil, a epee and a "saber" thats about as close to a saber as your limp dick

Or even better. His 100 sit-ups etc IS how he became that strong, and that's all it takes.
But keep the mystery behind it going throughout the seasons, different explanations given, but never quite right.
Only to, in the end, have his original answer the true answer...and people don't know what to do with themselves.

In Kendo you won't learn techniques on on the basis of how effective they would be at injuring or killing your opponent in a real fight but rather how effective they are at scoring points within an arbitrary rule system.
For example, there are only four kinds of strikes that are awarded points in Kendo. Strikes to the forehead, wrists, sides of the torso and front of the throat. Even if you can perfect your ability to were you can strike these targets extremely effectively, how do you learn how to effectively defend against any other kind of strike and how do you learn how to effectively fight anyone other than a Kendo practitioner with the same gear as you?
You aren't truly learning an effective form of swordsmanship when studying Kendo, you're just learning how to beat other students of Kendo You might develop reflexes and overall ability with your sword, but you're still specializing to a detrimental degree in the context of realistic sword fighting.
It is in this way that Kendo is similar to foil fencing. Neither are really aiming to be truly effective methods of sword fighting, they are just modern sports designed give people a way to compete and practice without anyone risking serious injury.

>>976845
While the ending scene of that movie was definitely the weakest part I think it was done as a deconstruction of those heroic standoffs in a way. They even lampshade it when renforcements show up later and tell the kid that he's a hero while he sits there with a thousand-yard stare.
>>980524
>I think it was done as a deconstruction of those heroic standoffs in a way
the movie has very few "war is sad" moments (like when they have to shoot the hitlerjung shooting the tank) and plenty of big action moments.
im sure you watched the film in a different mood and light than i did but stop kidding yourself. fury was way more holywood-american jingoism than bob or ryan. ryan was literally a story about how how people die pointlessly to try and find a single private and ryan himself shares that thought.
