Never seen that one, sorry. I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far. Mech fights don't happen as often as other Gundam shows, but I really like the character development and the setting/themes IBO offers. Not the best of all time, but definitely not a bad show by any means. Shame /m/ doesn't feel the same way

Idk how far along you are, but basically story arcs are occurring that people don't like (some with relatively good reason) and mech fights aren't happening often enough. Animation quality is inconsistent at times, but I personally never saw it as a real issue. The biggest thing in my opinion is that people have a week between each episode to really scrutinize everything that happens, such as [spoiler]Kudelia's botched assassination and how Gjallahorn had no idea what she even looked like[/spoiler] and [spoiler]Long-lost family members coming in out of nowhere, particularly Biscuit's older brother and Akihiro's little brother[/spoiler], particularly how [spoiler]Akihiro's little brother dies mere episodes after he's introduced, not giving his existence enough time to really impact the audience[/spoiler]. Some also don't like Kudelia's character in general later on, and I agree to an extent. I think she should [spoiler]get more opportunities to show off her alleged political savvy and knowledge. This is lacking when they are being harbored by the former PM of the Oceanic Federation, when he explains the politics to Tekkaden, making Kudelia look ignorant[/spoiler]. Like I said, it's not gonna be an instant classic or whatever, but it's not as bad as people like to say here. (God I hope I didn't fuck up the spoilertags)

I'm still pretty new to the series in general, so I don't really have much to compare IBO to unfortunately. So far i'm working on IBO, s2 of 00 and Thunderbolt (which is fantastic btw). I've finished the first season of 00 and 08th MS Team. I feel like I don't have the benefit of nostalgia goggles to enjoy the older UC shows as much as others do, but i'm still gonna try eventually.

I made the mistake of watching 8th MS before 0079 and definitely wish I hadn't. You get a lot more enjoyment out stuff like 0080, 0083, Unicorn, and the origin by having watched 0079, Zeta and ZZ
