Several dozen million years ago, that thing was definitely a dinosaur.
>>

What?! WHAT THE FUCK!? Oh, I didn't know that.
>>

It still is. Just smaller.

I don't even think "dinosaur" is the correct term for it. (meaning terrible lizard) I think it should be something more like a mix between "penna," and "robustus"

Or burly-bird. because it bounces.

reptiles can both be oviparous (laying amniote eggs on land) and viviparous (having a fertilized egg inside the mother)

an egg doesn't have to have a hard exterior or be layed on the ground or in water to be an egg

reptilia are defined as all amniotes (fetuses covered in a membrane) being closer to lacerta agilis (sand lizard) and crocodylus niloticus (nile crocodile) than to homo sapiens (humans)

There was footage of hyena's eating an elephant by putting their heads inside its ass while it was still alive and just eating away. It's called a lammergeier (lamb eater or something in german i think) or bearded vulture (also some third thing I can't remember). They eat the bone marrow of large animals in the wild by dropping the bones on rocks until they shatter. They also have a fondness for eating tortoises for some reason (killing them the same way they get the marrow from bones).

Some of them look like their necks/heads are orange or red b/c they rub red soil onto themselves as a sort of status symbol (older/stronger birds use more while younger/weaker birds use less).

That's all I remember about them off the top of my head but they're pretty cool birds.

oh come on, if you presented a tube half filled with water & several weights next to it anyone could put 2 and 2 together and put the weights in the tube

though if you had a more complicated test where you put someone in a room with a tube in the middle, half filled with water, then had a tap but no way to carry the water & several random objects that could fit in the tube around then some people might actually be stupid enough to just say "there's no way to carry the water & takes too long using hands, its impossible"

In fact that might be a better test to measure a crow's intelligence too, present a seemingly obvious solution with an actual hidden solution

that said crows are still pretty smart, most birds in general too, like that cockatoo lockpick test

I think according to the latest intelligence studies that've been done crows are currently the smartest animal on the planet.

They're able to solve up to 6-step puzzles where-in objects in the puzzles are needed as tools to solve other puzzles.
Also the puzzles had to be solved in a non-consecutive order.
They had to figure out which puzzle had the tools were needed to solve the puzzle that gave them the tool to solve the puzzle that gave them the tool to solve the puzzle that gave them another tool that could be used to solve the puzzle that actually had the food.

Coolest thing in my opinion, and the thing that still has the researchers scratching their head about, is the fact that other crows that had been kept with a crow that had already solved the puzzle(s)(but hadn't seen or watched the other crow solve it) were able to go straight into solving it without any trial and error.
They just stopped for a second, looked at it, and then began solving it right away.

This happened so much that the researchers learned they had to keep the ones they've tested away from the ones they hadn't because the tested one were basically ruining the initial experiment by telling the other how to solve everything.
>>
I've heard about crows being able to communicate well enough to describe and mark humans as dangerous, but being able to tell each other how to solve puzzles is fucking INSANE compared to that.

I remember watching this thing years ago where they talked about crows, and apparently in the last 100 years or so they've become more and more common in urban environments, the reason being because they're simply able to adapt to it better than other birds.

I mean you have pigeons who's existence in urban environments continues because of how numerous they are, but crows actually know ways to get their food using what's around them.

My favorite instance was where this one crow was able to actually drop things like nuts on the road so as to crack them when cars drove over them, but it doesn't stop there. Because places like New York or London are so dense and have cars running through them all the time, the crows actually know to drop the nuts on the crosswalk and wait for the lights to change to a symbol/color that will stop the cars, so the crow can land and eat the cracked nut without getting ran over.

They're absolutely ridiculous animals.

Dolphin rape caves are a myth. A thing that the internet came up with.
It's just an exaggerated story based on a few instances of rape acted out by immature young male pods of bottlenose dolphins.
There is nothing you have to fear from dolphins, especially not that they would pull you down to some secret "rape caves" where they have their way with you in turns.

I saw a talk by a guy some years ago (might have been a TED talk, back when they were good) who was using crows to test animal intelligence, he trained these crows with metal disks, every time a crow would bring him a metal disk the crow would get food, soon he had crows from all over the place bringing him any small metal objects they could find, I think he said that by the end of the experiment he had hundreds of dollars in coils and a fair amount in scrap metal!

Forreal though. It's seriously impressive - I'm not sure if his owner was specifically trying to teach him to say it, or if he's just prayed enough around him that the bird's picked it up.

On a random note, that bird has the same voice as my dad.

in the making of bits for Planet Earth, they show one cameraman waiting literally months in the same spot trying to get footage of one bird that was used for a few minutes in the show. They'll go to some extreme lengths to get what they need.

Also I think the BBC documentary crews generally have a policy of non-interference, but that doesn't mean there's no trickery (like filming a pack of wolves hunting something then using different footage for the eating or whatever). I don't think they'd outright just start throwing animals around though.

Dogs make a backwards tongue scoop, cats dip their tongue into the water, rapidly pull it out, and bite the drops of water as they're mid-air, because evolution apparently thinks of drinking as an afterthought.

>>

Actually cat tongue is build in really cool way, and thanks to this specifuc texture on tongue it "hold" water particles.

Also this quick movement make it easier to drink. That why cats keep their heads very close to water

This happened in Lviv, BTW. The lion had already attacked the trainer mid-show, before this video started recording. He was limping and bleeding profusely and was still like "I can handle this, I'm macho slav lion trainer man." Then the lion gave him a dirty look and he poked it in the fucking eye, and of course it jumps him, and all the other lions join in. Some of the lions who were sitting on the perches still most of the video didnt even want to fight, the circus is just stupid for bringing such an obviously agitated lion into the live show at that time
