Increasing the bitrate isn't going to make it look any better. The bitrate he's using is probably already higher than the source. If he's going to make low resolution webm he should use a lower bitrate.

Nah. Webms mostly look like shit because of the 4Mb limit. So they only look good if you do like 5-15 second clips or turn the resolution down a lot. There's no negative effects on too high framerate, although we hope not to see 4Mb 2 second webms everywhere.

I think you're misunderstanding. I'm doing it because I want to. I'm not going to be the first person, and I definitely won't be the last. They're only 5 seconds because they're test webm to get a feel for how people liked them here.
Not everyone has the same taste, and a few have expressed interest in seeing more, so obviously not everyone feels the same way that you do.
It really wasn't my intention to make the thread about me though. I just wanted to share what I had done and get some feedback. Which is what happened. Like it or not, I do appreciate your thoughts on it.

Interpolating a video to 60 fps barely increases it's size. He doesn't need to use a bitrate over 4000 for a 704x396 video. Using a high bitrate higher than the source is pointless. It only makes it harder for people on mobile to see. Half the users of 4chan browse from their phone. You're making it hard for people to see your webms if you don't use the bitrate efficiently. You should use a high bitrate if your webm is high resolution, but something small like 704x396 doesn't need anything over 1800.

I don't think about mobile users when making webms. I'm not making them 2x the original bitrate, but I try to get them to look as good as possible even if they go near or over the original bitrate (converting to VP8 doesn't mean exactly the same quality even if the bitrates are the same)

I'm not familiar with interpolating videos, but native 60fps videos are almost double the size than their 30fps counterparts. I'm not sure if it's the same for converted videos, but logic tell us that double the frames, double the size.

Wrong. In theory it's exactly the same as true 60fps video, it inserts full new frames between the old ones so it should be over twice as big. But because it re-encodes everything there's no exact size or lossless interpolated videos.

You can't just add frames and keep the video and its quality unchanged. You need to re-encode it and the output file size is the result of the setting you use. Of course you can make it even lower than the original file if you use low quality settings, or make it 10x the size by using high quality settings

You're right I should have left the original resolution for short webms, somehow though the settings decided to stick around. Initially I was preparing webms with a lengthy duration and for those I usually lower the resolution to fit the filesize limit, but the mwave uploads are so blocky looking I might as well make them in the original resolution hoping no one would notice the decrease in bitrate, this webm for instance was made with 870kb while the other two were in the range of 1500-1800kb

I know what you mean but then again m&g has never really been known for the most amazing picture quality with the choices being either 480p at 1MB bitrate or 720p 2MB. Looking at the youtube rip with mediainfo reveals the bitrate is approximately 1600kb so maybe the source directly from Mwave looks a bit sharper but I haven't downloaded it yet to check because for some reason it takes longer to process than youtube which was available only a short while after
