Eh, he linked a lot of old outdated stuff anyway, although one of them did link to my skype (the twitter one), so I ended up deleting my skype account. And he also used a pretty old photo of me. It was pretty weird though, I wasn't a fan. And I prefer chrome for its ease of use and it works better with YouTube and Netflix (Netflix doesn't work at all on Firefox on Linux), and what do you mean the bar not transparent? The top bar? I prefer it transparent compared to the weird black.
>>6610082
Without a titlebar? Are you suggesting I move to a WM like i3? Cause I've used i3 before, but I prefer normal window managers that work with a desktop environment. Just personal preference.

Thanks for the advice guys! :)
>>
>>6610082
I also removed the trash icon, and I gotta say, it looks much better without it.
>>
>>6610083
>move to a WM like i3
well, almost anything would be better than using unity, so yes...
my suggestion is to drop the DE entirely, but i understand not everyone wants to do that. openbox is fairly "normal," in that it has floating windows, snapping, etc
>>
>>6610087
I like Unity though, but that's just personal preference. I used to use i3 and I could never get into openbox. Really all just personal preference.
>>
>>6610083
i3 would work fine with a real DE, Unity simply relies on compiz so you have to use compiz if you use unity

>>
>>6611316
Visual Styles are what Windows uses to style window elements (Captions Buttons, Window Fonts, Titlebars, Borders, Taskbars, etc.). If you're just getting started I would not recommend using cygwin at all.

See the OP >>6610049 (Specifically nanami-tan) for more information.

I tried it to see if the amdgpu drivers would work properly. My computer used to just restart randomly.

Thinking of changing a few fonts.

Other than that I think I'll be happy enough to stop ricing and just change wallpapers/colors once in a while. Gotta concentrate on actually getting stuff done.
>>
>>6611665
The list I would have to go through would just be too long. Am I supposed to remember the exact time it restarts? What would I even be looking for? I'm not a computer scientist I wouldn't know what the fuck to do with log information.

Hi guys, I just got a trash desktop all-in-one from work, and it barely runs Windows 10. I thought I might set it up with some linux distro or some silly billy thing like that. What do you guys use for a nice, clean rice? Something I can probably learn over the weekend/week, and might let me browse normie stuff like reddit and Facebook?

I swear I'm not trolling or baiting. I just want at least a vague pointer.
>>

Thanks Kevin. So I go with something that uses KDE? The guide in OP recommends Arch, Debian and Gentoo. It also goes on a great tirade about how Arch is actually really unnecessarily hard to learn, so ... do I go with Debian then? I'm seeing you use Ubuntu.

Sure.

It's got an Intel i3-2100 4-Core CPU @3.1GHz
4GB RAM.

I think it's this one:

>>6612209
I think it can handle every DE out there. I'd recommend a basic Debian install and then picking the DE of your choice. Some have touchscreen support, maybe look out for one.
>>
>>6612212
oh, this thing isn't a touchscreen sadly. But I'll try putting Debian in it! Thanks anon. :) You're a good pal.

Who's the moron who labeled that graph? It's completely fucking wrong, and I've seen it around here like 3 times already. That graph shows memory comparison between WM/DEs. No clue how people extrapolated all that other bullshit from that.
