Much love for spiders
I understand that we should respect to spiders, but fear them?

I didn't take this picture. But, I worked comp tech a lot in North Carolina and did find black widows inhabiting computers twice.
No biggie for me ... I put them in jars and kept them as pets for a while, feeding crickets and cockroaches to them until they were fat & I released them.
They are actually very fast, as well as very beautiful.

Beautiful but mortal

Actually not many people die from Black Widow bites, you would have to be allergic.
>>6487415
That is not a Spider.
>>6488146
Yeah! but it's an arachnid as the scorpions... It's scary hahaha
>>6488143
Agreed that the lethal capability of a black widow is usually exaggerated, and agreed that allergic reactions are a huge factor.
However, the venom usually kills a pretty good sized chunk of flesh, especially if a person isn't fully aware of what bit them or otherwise doesn't get fast treatment. You can end up with a hole in you the size of a golf ball or a baseball where necrotic tissue needs to be removed.
I know a guy with a "small hole" in his calf, about half the size of a golf ball, caused by an infected spider bite. The only reason the doctors don't think it was a black widow is because the size of the dead tissue is so small, and it would be exceptionally rare for him to have encountered a black widow where he lives.

fascinating variant:
> family Segestriidae) consist of two large and widespread genera (Segestria and Ariadna) and two smaller genera, Citharoceps and Gippsicola. The family is easily recognized because its members have six eyes (most spiders have eight) arranged in a semicircle and have the first three pairs of legs arranged forward (most spiders have only the first two pairs so arranged.)

I found one of those things scuttling outside my house last week. Had to have been the first one I have seen after living in the desert for 7 years. Apparently they're around $40 for the medium sized ones. I should have caught the creepy little fuck and sold him on the black market.

>>6530041
I have no idea where that is. I suppose I could google it, but would've been cool if you mentioned.
>>6530061
No idea. Random find from /hr/ a while back. It resembles various funnel web spiders, so maybe? And, SEE >>6498820
Eye count and leg orientation. Can't quite convince myself it has eight eyes, so if there are six. And, the forward three pairs of legs also seem oriented forward. I'm not an expert, though. Just a hobby I've followed for a few years now.

I used to have a pet redback, she only had 7 legs but had no trouble running down all the moths and flies I fed her. Also kept her jar very clean moving all the corpses into a neat pile in the corner.
I love spiders little furry jumping ones are my favourite. Great thread.
