do you think they will let you escape from niggers in space?

as soon as you build up a nice thing there will be shrill demands from the usual parties to force you to share what you have built up with parasites

FTL is impossible, and living in space gives us bone density problems, kidney failure, and much more. It won't happen.
>>
>>6473786
Because we're heading straight into a world openly dominated by corporations were only the wealthy can afford stuff and the rest are left to die.

Assuming we spend the majority of our time in 0 grav. A spinning hallway simulates gravity just fine.
>>
>>6475682
That would be such a dope map for an online shooter
>>
>>6479002

Plenty of resources in our own solar system. And space doesn't give bone density problems and kidney problems; zero gravity does. We've known how to fix that longer than you've been alive.

The only real problem is that space is expensive.

These kinds of pictures always makes me feel super comfy, but the sad thing is that that kind of existence would be just as shit, if not more, than what we have right now.

Very nice papes though.

You're looking for the utopia thread...
>>
>>6479002
FTL is impossible at the moment, but it's overwhelmingly likely that we don't know more than we do know about the universe and how shit works, if that concept could even stand up in relevance to the biggest picture. It's very likely that we will never leave this solar system, and go extinct eventually, but the monkeys we are, speaking with certainty about the future is fucking stupid.
>>
>>6479621
>that kind of existence would be just as shit, if not more, than what we have right now.
dude, that view would make everything better.
>>
>>6479002
Warp drives are possible m8
Though it's possible we'll go extinct before reaching that technological advancement.
>>
>>6479040
If you make it big enough, like as big as the halo rings
because of vertigo, the inner ear fluid will be subjected to the rotational energy
>>
>>6479002
m8, do you have any idea how many people joined you in that line of thinking before each consecutive technological and scientific breakthrough humanity's achieved throughout the last few millennia? Each day, somebody is born on this rock that will believe they were put here to prove you wrong. There's nothing more infuriating to them than the phrase "It's challenging, so let's just forget about it."
>>
>>6481519
>If you make it big enough, like as big as the halo rings

What makes you think that?
>>
>>6473786
Dystopain fiction usually isn't about hwo the future is going to be depressing but rather abstracting problems we have today in a sci fi setting. For example blade runner talks about second class citizens and human rights.

>Implying resources can't be obtained from other celestial objects

There is a difference between challenging and breaking all known laws of physics, the purest and most testable form of knowledge.

I mean, sure, dragons might be real or the Earth really a big organic computer designed by mice like in the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.

The thing is, FTL travel is not one bit more possible. It's pure magical thinking. Part of the reality of our having more and more knowledge is that we gain it largely by ruling out things.

Something like folding space, wormholes etc. are vaguely possible. FTL travel is not. It's not an unknown or a challenging problem. It's homeopathy. It's using rhino horn powder to make your penis bigger.

No one would even be considering it or thinking about it if it hadn't been dreempt as a cheesy plot device in old pulp serials, popularized, and entered into modern imagination as if it were some actual problem to tackle.

Stop trying to make Star Wars real life, there are better, more interesting challenges in physics that don't require breaking every single law of physics as surely as willing a rock to float would. You aren't expanding thinking...you're making it smaller and thinking inside a box.

Odds are we will wipe ourselves out, straggle along in a long slow downward slide as we are right now until we are wiped out naturally (via meteor, disease etc.) or else manage to slowly spread off of the Earth. From most to least probable.

In any case it's mandatory for us to leave the Earth in the long view. Even if we cull almost all of the current population, we won't be living millions of years as a species without nearly completely changing our entire mindset and obv. our level of scientific advancement. We will go extinct like anything else does and we are going to do it faster than a lot of things. We don't have a therapod-tier run ahead of us. Unless we learn how to correctly control the global extinction events nature has queued up for us, the ones we are making for ourselves and will make in the future, and have an exit strategy. That's literally our blessing and our curse. Dinosaurs couldn't stop natural apocalypses from killing them off but they also didn't build nukes.
>>
>>6483475
>folding space, wormholes etc. are vaguely possible. FTL travel is not.

Okay, if you want to get anally technical about it, I won't use the term "Faster Than Light". Yes, wormholes and folding space, let's go down that route.

"evil corporations" like spaceX have are effectively reducing the cost of transportation to orbit by as much as 50% due to innovation BECAUSE of the private sector. The socialist utopia that was the soviet union went broke trying (and failing) to get to the moon.

>If you make it big enough
He's got a point. Centripetal force is a viable option, but to simulate 1G along the inside of a 10 meter ring, it has to rotate at something like 30 rpm, which is likely to cause blackouts.

honestly i see the future becoming w40k because of how mankind is by nature. we will fuck up any relation with aliens that may be encountered and with how the world is now imagine if we had whole planets that had only muslims or jews or christians.
instead of getting along we would kill each other
