Not the anon that worked on these, but to answer this, png will be always superior to jpg in terms of quality. Jpg compresses the file and causes artifacts over time.

I just ran the image through a png compression tool I found online (first result on google, tinypng). It made compressed it to 813KB from 3.28MB. The site does say it is compressing it, but I can't really see any difference between the two.

I did it and, yes, it's the shift to PNG.
Maybe that was a waste. If the JPG already has artifacts, going to PNG won't eliminate them.
It just prevents further degradation.
But I thought I'd give you a choice. You can always save it back to JPG if memory-space is a problem.

Added a bit to the top and bottom to get 1920x1080. I could also crop the sides to get rid of the black bars, but I prefer them for this wall. Adds a real cinematic feel.
