Wow, this is nice. I'm on mac too. How can I you get a desktop like that ?! (Newbie here, sorry.)
>>1894058
yeah, I used flavors and a terminal theme to go with my desktop. pretty normal really, I kind of want to update my mac so I can get the auto-hiding top bar, but I don't think its worth the risk of everything breaking ;_;
>>1894060
are you still running el capitan or earlier?
if you update even if everything doesnt break you'll still lose flavours, it sucks ass now :(
alright here is attempt number 3
>>1894066
im running yosemite
>>1894217
interesting. so that's one of their provided themes then. i guess if you start with one of their themes and base everything else around it, you can do cool things
i'm surprised you're worried about updates then- what would break?
>>1894221
its funny actually, i already had almost everything else themed, and i installed flavours with the intention of making a custom theme, but this one fits so perfectly I figured that i really couldnt do any better with my limited photoshop and mac theming knowledge.
as far as things breaking... flavors i guess and possibly a bunch of other things as I have modified my os quite a bit and have been taught to distrust apples updates after it killed one of my snow leapord computers

I'm not really sure what you want help with, I'm not really looking to give a walkthrough because there is already a guide for it here:https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners'_guide And on top of that there are plenty of guides on youtube.
I'm not really at the point where I want to post the whole theme yet but I can tell what programs I used and give you pointers.

i know some people save every image in these threads, so I'll ask on the off chance someone saved my old post.
I'm looking for an old desktop I'm pretty sure I posted here. It was probably 3840x1080 and was definitely this wallpaper on the ride side.
It was posted sometime between August 2014 and December 2015, if that helps.

>>1895492

>>1895492
this is a generalization and honestly is misinformation.
a lot of explorer changes are just registry changes.
what dll other than the explorerframe do you need to edit?

nah youre just bad
>>1895694

>>1895693
Why are you messing with dlls?
Also, you just need to know what and what NOT to do when ricing windows. It's actually very easy
>>1895511
Resource Hacker to edit shell in order to remove tree view, command bar, or navigation and search bars. Explorer frame only changes the navigation icons.
>>1895693
>when windows decides to update
How's Windows 10? Even updating 7 now is forced ads packaged as "security updates". Who actually updates or pays for Windows?
>>1895711
>resource hacker to edit shell to remove tree view
Pardon my ignorance, "edit shell"? Shellstyle.dll you mean? You're probably trying to edit the shellstyle in system32 instead of the one with your theme (if you are having issues) but I fail to see how someone could fuck up recompiling one line in one dll.
Tree view? Do you mean the navigation pane? Visibility is determined by a true/false value in the registry. By default its just a menu option with "organize".
I know what explorerframe.dll does, that was my point...
What else are you trying to accomplish thats so difficult? I think most people are satisfied just downloading and installing a visual style...
>>1895357
That looks amazing, is the top image dependent on what you search or just a background?
>>1895693
>>1895711
>fucking with .dll's, the registry, and my system style and potentially breaking my system until I revert
The fuck are you doing to your system? Just use Style Builder and the Organize menu, you don't need to fuck with .dll's.

what file manager or photo viewer are you using to view those photos?
@Allwannabericersbuttoolazytoreadsometexttogetyourcomputerlookingthewayyouwantitoratleastsortacoolsoyoucanbelikethekoolkidzatthosedesktopthreads
You should install Manjaro -- it takes away all the hard work of starting from scratch on Arch.
It's still fully customizable and has *almost* all the benefits of Arch!
Not saying you'll have an ez time configuring everything but---
I Plan on writing some guides later on so people can just copy all the config files of awesome customizations. What are your thoughts on this?
http://manjaro.github.io/
>>1895905
ah, that just makes it easier.
People can just install Manjaro, then go to package manager and install everything listed
>>1895903
>Manjaro
Just loaded vanilla distro on to a disk.
Is it worth reburning or trying to learn how to operate Linux itself.
I thought it might be more beneficial as a learning experience type of thing because I was looking at distros like Mint.
>>1895918
You should really get Manjaro to learn how to customize and configure.
1) ez to install
2) customization
I wouldn't recommend Mint to ANYONE it's so ugly and a ton of junk honestly
>>1895867
generic but nice
>>1895891

>>1895903

>>1896013
The guide is not as easy compared to a point and click installation. This is why it's better for people who just to have the freedom to configure their system the way they want it to without having to go through the installation of Arch
>>1896033
If you can do Arch go ahead, but if you don't want to go through the Arch install process then go with Manjaro.
You'll still get all the benefits.
>>1896043
>>1896042

>>1896033
If you're interested in learning how a linux system works, it doesn't really matter what distro you're using. After all, manjaro is pretty much just arch with some preloaded stuff. Either way you'll be able to learn a lot.
I guess if you don't have experience with doing stuff in the terminal the arch install is a good intro. But it's really not that difficult, you just follow the guide.

I'm looking to get into ricing. From the looks of it, is ricing linux easier than ricing windows?
>>1896402
only if you're familiar with Linux, of course. but yes, it tends to be easier since Linux is more... modular.
>>1894438

>>1896413

Linux is definitely easier to rice. There's an annoyingly high learning curve to ricing windows because you're not supposed to be able to rice it in the first place. When was the last time Windows toted being able to fully customize themes and your user interface as a feature?
>>1896495
I bet my qt brown asshole that his folder is not entirely composed of that flickr, but alright.
I already knew about the flickr anyway.
>>1896516
That is the learning curve. Most windows users can't be bothered to read anything.

>>1896686
Thanks!
I have 3 urxvt windows open, one normal, one with ranger, and one with ncmpcpp. In the middle I have thunar open. The image viewer is ahoviewer which I use to browse yandere, konachan, etc. For locally stored images I usually just use feh. The bar is tint2.
I have compton running which makes the shadows. I was also using it for vsync but I have switched gpus since that screenshot and its been giving me issues with the radeon driver(I was using amdgpu in that image). I will probably just rebuild the kernel with the 'experimental support' for this 390x I now have.
>>1895903
Manjaro is almost as bad as your desktop, though. I'd literally rather use Debian or another apt distro.
>>1896739
apt is shit and Debian is turbo shit so that's saying a lot
>>1896740
Yes, it is. The only distro I can think of worse is Antergos seeing as though it doesn't actually have a functional install script despite that being its main big point
>>1894502
you probably should not bother with arch if than. Try installing ubuntu or linux mint first, install Openbox on it (i think thats the WM op uses in the picture) and go from there.

Fix the background of the text in your titlebar, or use a VS that has fixed it.
