The novel is the source material and is worth checking out, and the manga is a badly adapted version of the anime so I would suggest taking a pass on it imho.

The manga is top tier horseshit honestly. They really press the "yuri" and "ecchi" themes which are pretty unrelated. The novel is good, though I don't know how far along the translation is.

It's been an incredibly refreshing anime, really good one.
And every time I'm looking at the list of animes to be aired, I'm hoping there will be one as good as SY.

That's not ecchi, and moreover, it's absolutely not ""forced"".
The yuri has a real purpose in the story. And it's normal that it has a lot of attention, they're teens, so ofc all they think about is their naive love life.
