Any attempt to brute-force a hat onto her is going to look "wrong".
The twin-tails simply make her head too wide.
A real hat would smash them flat against the skull.
I tried to conceal that by having her wear it
"carelessly" and allowing her forelock to poke out.
Couple more Christmas themed pixiv grabs I could use a render for.
This first one has a slight waterpaint background, but I don't need that included.
If I could just get the girl and cats cut out.

The other reason it looks way off is that the character's style as opposed to the hat style differ too greatly. You have a character with thin lines and flat shading wearing a hat with thick lines and sort of a posterized effect goin on. As a result, she looks like she's wearing clip art

I use this hat for every anime picture around the holidays, it works out well if you change the saturation of the red and maybe the brightness. also changing the hue does well to give you any color hat you want.

Well, the BD for Vol. 1 comes out in 3 weeks. Maybe you could wait til then and grab the screens from the NCOP? It would save somebody a lot of time, AND it would be higher quality too. That's my suggestion.
