Tracing each color in Adobe illustrator with curves and lines to make shapes. It's not hard, but it's very time consuming to make them detailed.
For example,

Now just make a full blown vector with more detailed coloring and having to draw all the lines, without strokes. It's so quick and fun.

I recommend exporting it at a higher resolution, just to give people more options should they want to resize it. 300 PPI or higher in the export settings will generally export at a large resolution.

As for this, I'm a little more worried about. With her laying down like that with so few cloths/colors I'd imagine i'd turn out funny. If I don't included the mat she would appear to be hovering funny, and If I did, there would be parts I'd have to make up due to the cut off. I guess I could try it though.

If there is a thread dedicated to the minimalist style, it seems to make more sense to just put everything here instead of spreading a single conversation over 2 threads and linking half of it back here. Since this is the internet, it goes without saying people don't read the rules. With that said, how do you propose that people learn about them, if not by being pointed out such when they break one?
Sure, you could just sit on the sideline while they are banned and can't post for a while, but that's just not my style, I'll give people the benefit of the doubt.

Bullet point 4, the IMT thread is for rendering, extracting, and enlarging an image. Making these minimal style walls is not either of those. Conversely because this is something that can be done without Illustrator/inkscape they are not vectors either so point 3 is out. In short if you must point out the rules get them right, or don't talk out of your ass. Making requests here is just fine. The process for making this style of image is not a modification of an existing image, its a full on recreation of a new one.

I just sorta wing it in photoshop with the pen tool, that's 90% of what I do with these besides zooming in nice and doing a little fine brush work. I'll include a pic that's pretty representative of how I do things in the next post. If you give me a little time I can put together a crappy infographic explaining things.

I basically trace with the pen tool around what I want to be the solid shape in the end. Once I have my shape I make sure to name the path so it doesn't get deleted with the next work path gets made, and I convert it to a selection and fill it with the most representative color in that shape. A lot of people do gradients with certain shapes that would go well with them.
I go around and do that for everything that needs it and try not to miss anything, and eventually it works out. I can't speak for anyone who does these but myself, they might have a totally different method but that's what works the easiest and most efficiently for me.
Just make sure to keep up with naming layers as you make them or you'll end up with 25+ unnamed layers that you need to order and will need to toggle visibility for a lot.

Not exactly "fairly detailed" (excluding the blur), but all the darks and lights were so close to the same, and the scarf would of looked odd with the dark in just some parts. Also, fuck guitar strings.
