Hey guys I was looking at action replay 3 in 1 carts for the sega saturn and realized that they only give an extra meg of ram to the system. Is this for all those 3 in 1 cards, or are there ones that give 4 megs of ram? Also is this the best cartridge to get to play imported games?

The one in your pic does have 4MB ram
>>3351290
Whoever graphically designed that sticker on the cart should be shot.
The sticker says 4mb for storage, the card says it had 1/4mb ram
>>3351290
that box definitely says 4mb, retard
>>3351336
Read the fucking box you autist, it says 4mb memory card and 1/4mb ram expansion
>>3351349
But reading is harrrrddd.
I have tried it with Vampire Savior and KoF 96, both work but KoF has some graphical glitches.
>>3351362
No problems with it here.
The only games that need some special ram cart are KOF 95 and that ultraman game.
>>3351367
These glitches also occur when playing the game with an official 4MB cart, i remember reading somewhere that some 1MB games get corrupted graphics with 4MB carts.
>>3351374
That page also says,
The Action Replay Plus has 1MB/4MB RAM functionality built-in, being able to detect which type of RAM cartridge is required.
>>3351380
Maybe it's just my action replay not switching to 1MB mode for some reason since i get the exact same glitches with it as i get with the 4MB cart when playing KoF 96
Okay so the 1/4 ram means it contains two modes of operation based on the required ram to play the game at its best
>>3351392
Wouldn't surprise me if there's different revisions/versions of the thing floating around. Mine for instance is missing the port on top of it.
>>3351362
My cart was broken on arrival but it was much more glitchy than that
>>3351403
There are. I have some versions that have a switch to select 1/4 RAM. Apparently there are some that are supposed to auto switch but don't do it well.
>>3351307
welcome to the 90s, faggot
>>3351367
samurai shodown 3 or 4 cant remember which requires a 1mb cart otherwise you get awful glitches
>>3351402
yes
that's exactly what it meansretard
>>3351536
I had the pants on the left.
>>3351362
>I have tried it with Vampire Savior and KoF 96, both work but KoF has some graphical glitches.
Then it definitely has 4mb.
>>3351392
>Maybe it's just my action replay not switching to 1MB mode for some reason since i get the exact same glitches with it as i get with the 4MB cart when playing KoF 96
The action replay doesn't switch modes, it has 4mb on it, which "works" with all 1mb games.
KOF and Samurai Showdown were just poorly coded so they end up glitching with the 4mb cart.

The earliest carts came with 1mb only, later ones had 4mb but hooked up wrong and did not work in all games (they require a solder fix). All the later cards use 4mb, sometimes with the port on top, sometimes with no port (but the cartridge pcb still has the slot for it), and sometimes with no port and a simplified cartridge design that uses less chips.

I have action replays that can switch. Generally not a good idea to make broad claims about a wide range of products from before your time.
>>3353503
I had the middle.
Ive got a Saturn with that cart with no top port or switch and can say its had no ram problems at all and has kept goid storage of all my games
Can you use this action replay cart to play backups with no modchip? My Saturn is a Japanese model
>>3358124
No, it acts as a region unlocking tool. You still need a modchip.
>>3358181
pseudo saturn was already mentioned in the thread, you flash the AR cart's firmware to play backups, or just use swap trick.
>>3358190
>pseudo saturn
So it's essentially a swap trick like the PS1 with an Atlus boot disc?
>>3358190
>you flash the AR cart's firmware
How?
