It's a decent alternative but the NES version is still better. Check the sales between both versions and you'll have an idea why.
I also heard Mega Man on DOS was good
It looks and sounds bad and seems like it plays bad too. But obviously the Amiga is capable of much, much better and would easily surpass the NES version if the port was done properly.
It was the first Castlevania to let you jump onto stairs. It's innovative.

You'd be surprised how many delusional Amiga fanboys are out there in UK and Germany and other areas where it was popular.
Nothing surpassed the Amiga to them, and they'll argue with you the way people who are still stuck in the 16-bit consol wars do.
