I used to be like that, but then I started watching and actually liked. I started with game sack. Regular TV never really 'got' videogames. Youtube is filling a void. So is twitch. I like watching people that know different stuff that I know and learn. I hate watching millenials playing retro stuff and talking stupid crap and making top 10 lists of stuff that they don't know. I also hate the revisionism that is basically people repeating shit that they heard on the internet. There are a lot of reasons to dislike a lot of guys on youtube.
A lot of them are just idiots, or have other passions and clearly got stuck doing video games (James, Jontron, even Egoraptor clearly wanted to be an animator) and a slew of others.

At /vr/'s suggestion, I've been watching Happy Console Gamer. Started from the earleist videos and building my way up. I'm at the year 2012. I like what I see for the most part, though at times I have to question whether he makes shit up, or if he really had that kind of road and passion for video games. His friend, Rob, on the other hand does seem genuine, and the two have some good on screen chemistry. Can't say I care that much about the games that they often review, since I was more of a PC kid, but I like that it's done nicely, without zany bullshit you get from Channel Awesome, and down to the point.

I still think you can see some of the parodies were made with some bad intention behind, even if it was just parody, I could sense Joe is a bit jelly of AVGN or Metal Jesus because they make a lot more dosh than he does.
Also, Metal Jesus actually worked on Sierra when he was younger, I'd say he knows a thing or two about video games. He's just completely careless and lazy on his videos and prefers other people talking instead of him, he's also smart because he brings cute girls which attracts more viewers.

That was a bit too generous of an assessment if anything. From my experience, Rolfe seems pretty ignorant about pretty everything gamign related outside the NES and Super NES games he grew up with or read about from Nintendo Power (I doubt he even read any other magazine growing up). It's pretty obvious by how bias his SNES vs. Genesis video was (and this is coming from someone who grew up as a Nintendofag).

I think James is actually really knowledgeable about film. Thats what he went to college for. His movie collection is pretty big and he could probably tell you all the times a certain horror movie came out, the format and the company that released it. I think its a shame his movie turned out the way it did. It felt like fan service. I feel like it could have been made way better if James just did what he wanted to do.
