If he's playing Nethack in fucking DOSBox he probably wants to be as close to the original as possible
Nethack 4 is just Nethack with a less crappy UI, no gameplay changes. Dynahack uses 4's UI while making gameplay changes.
What about dungeon crawl: stone soup?
