I still think James was right. IrateGamer was just playing the victim when he absolutely without a fucking doubt strictly copied James' schtick and even jokes and segments verbatim.

I actually like Board James, and I like how it kind of has this continuity and storyline going on which is something that AVGN hasn't ever really done.
I think James can absolutely make something fun and interesting. He needs to hang up AVGN, make something new, maybe without a schtick at all.
If he actually made a mini-series about some fucking loser who loves movies and wants to make one himself but he's getting old and no one wants to get on board with his movie since he's out of touch with modern stuff and doesn't have the experience to make it. Then he makes some web show or whatever and its successful and he has a shot at the big time.

I think whats holding him back is himself. He no doubt wants full creative control, and feels he's entitled to it. The plot for AVGN was a mess and poorly written, the movie was poorly paced, and missed the mark (we wanted games, we got everything but games). He could absolutely make another attempt, make something bigger, more impressive, but he's sticking to the AVGN schtick because its his cash cow.

Most of the times they're also started as sthealth threads, like "hey guys what do you think of this game/controller/console", with a picture of an e-celeb to guarantee replies and shitposting. GCCX threads very clearly state "GCCX thread: here's the download links", there's not much to shitpost about and they're not trying to start shit.
Hopefully a youtube board will be created sometime to help with this issue.

Episodes 90 & 91: Action 52 and Cheetahmen
This is a two-parter. Back in the early 2000's, I think just about everyone stumbled upon Action 52 while playing around with ROMs. These episodes remind me of the time my little brother and I played through all 52 games and just joking around on them. I'm really glad he gave Cheetahmen their own episode because they definitely deserved it. My younger brother used to love drawing pictures of the Cheetahmen all over his notebook. I don't know what it was, but we were both suckers for TMNT rip-offs (like Biker Mice from Mars). The Action 52 episode is straight-up riffing on game after game. Lot of fun. The Cheetahmen episode is a bit less organized (like where he rushes through Action 52 on the Sega Genesis) but is still super funny.

Episode 31: Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout
I actually rented this game once as a kid. I say "once" because I wound up beating it the first day we rented it. His point that the game just won't let you die despite constantly hitting you with enemies is spot on. Still, a fun little game.
This episode features an appearance by Bugs Bunny, who gets abused by the Nerd. I think he really manages to balance out the Bugs Bunny bits with the video game bits really well. Bugs Bunny would returns in episode 75 (for Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle), but this episode is honestly the better of the two. I felt, in the Crazy Castle episode, the games took a real backseat to the Bugs Bunny bits, which just weren't as fun the second time around. With Birthday Blowout episode, it's clearly just him and his buddy messing around and having a good time. With the Crazy Castle episode, he goes for "epic" and it just doesn't work. Another clear strength that this episode has over the other episode is that this episode focuses on one game, whereas the Crazy Castle episode tries to look at the entire series (and doesn't look at all the games, and as a result isn't as informative as it could have been, as many more characters, like Roger Rabbit, were a part of the Crazy Castle series).
Overall, this episode is classic.

Episode 24: Spider-Man
I think I like this episode because you can really tell Kyle has a lot of fun playing Spider-Man. Also, the Spider-Man song at the end is just hilarious.
This is another video where they focus on a collection of games. I feel like they give each Spider-Man game their due and do them justice except for Spider-Man 2 on the Gameboy Advance, which seems a bit rushed and tacked on. The riffing is top-notch here.

Episode 123: ALF
This is one of his "12 Days of Shitmas" episodes, so it's shorter than normal but I feel that makes the riffing more concise and accurate. This wasn't a game I was familiar with, so after watching this episode, I gave it a try, and he's dead-on in his depiction of the game.
What makes this episode stand out, for me, is the ending. I dare you not to laugh. I just dare you.

Like his voice goes a bit higher in tone everytime he finishes a sentence, sorry if I'm not clear enough, I'm also not a native english speaker so maybe it's a cultural/regional thing I'm not aware of.
It seems as if every sentence he speaks, is like a question.
For example
"So I was playing this game, and it was cool".
The way he speaks, it seems like he's saying

If my memory is correct, he does it whenever he's going to continue speaking. So if he's "speaking" a paragraph, he'll do that until the very last sentence and then go low again to indicate he's finished. It's also partially that he's in a conversation with a friend so he's kinda trying to invoke a response with non-questions so they can talk back and forth.
It's mainly an accent thing and it varies from person to person even within regions. I'm a native speaker and I don't do it.

A lot of people actually just don't like it, it's not some sort of AVGN thing. I don't after having come from Castlevania 1. It went from being a linear, streamlined game where it challenged you with its difficulty to a very spread out and unusual puzzle where most of the challenge was in figuring out what to do and wandering around rather than actually beating any specific challenges. It would be like if Battle Toads became an open world game for no reason or something.
I know some people like it but it's clearly a different type of game that wouldn't appeal to a lot of people.

Graphically I always tought it looked really bad. Not sure how to explain it, but It looks kinda messy and unpolished to me.
