Hey, the interview was solid as fuck. You also missed Silent Hill.

4th for subbing older episodes

i'd really like to see woody poko subbed, cause I haven't a fucking clue whats going on in that. I just know at some point he's called a thief and has to restart

I always hear the roboticized voice at the start of the GCCX opening as saying "PLAY STAY SIMPLE TEST".

>>2784357
Please, all of the interviews were more interesting than early, no-videogame-instinct Arino's plays. While learning the ruler trick was kinda cool, the 'challenges' were him losing miserably or winning directly by cheating. At least in later episodes there's some sort of middle ground.
>>
>>2785704
>>
>>2784679
I just don't see the point of re-doing an episode that's already been translated when people are already thirsty for new stuff.
>>
>>2784679
There's nothing wrong with someone not liking an episode and saying so. That's just his opinion.

>>2786626
TV-Nihon only translated the challenge before. They skipped most of the episode.
>>
>>2786642
Oh, then that makes a little more sense then. Yeah I just skipped over the soccer parts because I don't care about sports or sports games.
>>
>>2786783
Regardless of sports games or not, that was one interesting interview Takatsuka didn't even know much about soccer until he was pointed as producer/director for Winning Eleven and there were lots of interesting stuff about how Konami used to develop games and such.
>>
>>2784357
Yo have no idea how interesting this interview was for me. I don't play Winning Eleven any more, but the insight in the segment was unreal, I guess I didn't care at all about development as I do now (sadly, there's no good Konami today).
>>
This has probably been asked before, but did anyone else do subtitles for the Quest of Ki live event other than the "Sugoi Squad"? Seriously, I'm considering watching it raw rather than dealing with this terrible translation.
>>
>>2787623
Watch the raw, they were troll subs.
>>
>>2787623
The Bonk's Adventure episode has a documentary on the live event.

Nobody has subbed the actual thing. Sugoi Squad was an April Fool joke by SA with intentionally bad subs.
>>
>>2787705

That's a shame, although I feel better knowing those weren't serious. And I'll have to watch the Bonk's Adventure episode sometime, thanks!

Does "Himouto" actually mean "little sister"?

I just know the word from watching Himouto Umaru-Chan and I think they're using the same word in Legacy of the Wizard for the little sister.

Sorry I'm still really bad at Japanese, Senpai-kun. ;_;
>>
>>2788073
'Imouto' is little sister.
'Himouto' is a pun on 'Himono', literally 'dried fish' but colloquially meaning a woman who looks good outside the home but is slovenly at home.

Not that guy, but it's not any harder than it is for someone 15 years younger, just keep at it. Age hasn't stopped Arino, I'm sure it's not going to stop you either.

Also that pun is way more obvious in the original title (干物妹!うまるちゃん) as it literally says "Dried fish little sister!"

>>
>>2788130
>it's not any harder than it is for someone 15 years younger

It kinda is. I don't know what the cutoff age is, but they always say kids have a much easier time absorbing a language, but I think 15 would be beyond that. But even so, a 15 year old has way less responsibilities and more time than a 30 year old who has to work 9 hour days and just comes home drained and can barely muster the energy to funpost on 4chan, let alone do something productive like learn a language. I'm trying though.
>>
File: yoga.jpg (159 KB, 476x600) Image search: [Google]

159 KB, 476x600
>>2788665

I'm pretty sure kids absorbing languages faster is a myth, even a kid learning their first language spends years and years completely surrounded by it from every direction before they understand it well. And even then they misunderstand a ton and aren't aware of all the rules which is why they need to spend several more years in school on top of that to iron out all the kinks. When it's all said and done that is way more years than what an adult needs to learn a new language since they can approach it in a much more efficient and systematic manner from the word go.

Similarly a 30-year-old probably has less time than a 15-year-old, but at the same time they're more intelligent and better at figuring out efficient studying methods. Plus if we're being realistic, the vast majority of 15-year-olds are too busy with hormones and other distractions to dedicate all of their free time to studying a language anyway.
>>
>>2789076
I dunno. I learned my second language, English, at a young age and it stuck very quickly and naturally, especially due to the abundance of English-language entertainment in my country (this is what it feels living in a minor country). I can thank much of it to playing Pokemon in particular. Sure I had classes in it too, but as I remember it I learned almost more actual English from Pokemon. Classes mostly taught me some simple grammar like "a/an" and stuff like how to pronounce "the".

These days I need much more conscious effort towards learning a language than I needed as a child, where you'd just absorb the language.

Sure you can still absorb a language by going abroad and completely surrounding yourself by it, but it still requires much more conscious effort. I mean some people manage to live in another country with another language and learn jack-all (people with their priorities all wrong).
>>
>>2789080

I also mostly learned English the same way and in fact it was my strongest subject in school, but even then we're talking roughly 5+ years from the first time I laid my eyes on the language to the point where I could understand and produce it without constantly making obvious mistakes. An adult can do a lot better than that, and without the misunderstandings that come with learning by absorbtion.

Plus a lot of people already speak an Indo-European or even straight up Germanic language like German, Swedish or Dutch as their first language before they learn English which gives them a huge advantage. Japanese and other Asian languages are a completely different matter as they don't even share the same writing system as the languages most of us are used to, so you don't have any kind of familiar ground to start from. Absorbing a language that you can't on any level connect to the one you speak is not something a kid is going to accomplish with any kind of speed or ease.
>>
>>2789109
Bilinguals, though. When you have several first languages learned in parallel due to having parents speaking different languages to the child or similar. I doubt the languages being different will make that much of a difference.

Also the difference between a child learning and an adult learning is just that the child doesn't need to give as much conscious effort to it, regardless of how long it takes.

But there is a possibility that an adult could learn faster, of course, through really dedicated study and conscious effort, but that's not usually what people mean when they say it's easier to learn a language as a child. What they say is it requires less (conscious) effort, not that you learn it faster as a kid.

The Konami episode is pretty sad to watch in 2015, it's been over a decade now since Silent Hill was in its golden age before it started going downhill from 4 and on.
>>
Stop having meta discussions about learning japanese, if you want to do it just do it, quit the mental masturbation

I'm sticking with Valkyrie no Bouken for my guess on the next challenge.
>>
>>2789345
The GCCX generals are always meta as shit, at least sometimes the janitor cleans the mess.

>>2789326
Yeah, the Yamaoka interview was quite painful to watch, I honestly don't care about producers but I guess I was fond to Konami without really knowing it (The PES interview, while interesting, really made me realise that I stopped playing a football game nearly 6 years ago), I kinda "blame" the show for actually making me acknowledge the producers of games.

Pretty much all of them you can easily get the gist of, except for the sound novel or detective games or whatever. You miss out on the jokes and staff interaction, which is half the fun. My favorite thing about the show is when Arino goes out in public and harasses older arcade owners or other people.
>>
>>2791860
Any form of harassment is nice in this show, the Japanese kinda endure, even Matsumoto parents laughed when Arino picked on her at Budokan, I really don't feel bad when I laugh because of it.

I'm looking at the episode list now. It says there are still 6 episodes in this season after #210. I think they might even have to squeeze #211 into December to finish the season in March if you factor in a holiday break. Why would you think an episode in the middle of November would be the last one of the year?
>>
>>2790250

>>
>>2792469

>>
>>2792817

>>

I saw somebody in the SA thread asked what the bit was about near the end of Trojan. It was about preventing continue misses. Well I know which one I'm downloading.

Wonder if they'll have him do Link's Awakening. Majoria's Mask is going to be ruled out due to how the game is designed unless Kan gets lazy and turns it into a 3 parter.

I'm trying to rewatch the series chronologically and the dvd release dates are confusing me. It says transformers was around season 2 but the episode itself says it's season 4 and it's urakawa instead of sasano? I thought maybe it was ordered by release date of the other episodes but everywhere has the same dates listed. Is there something I'm missing?

It's "OK". Still it's mostly recycled stuff from the Mighty Bomb Jack episodes. With some forced story and remade stages/scenes. Fun to see, but well.
I think the main thought of the movie actually was to show how it was when the Famicom was not retro but the current era, but that sadly came a bit too short. If they had a higher budget i think it would have gotten really good.

Really sucks because the Lemming challenge because isn't even as daunting as you'd think. I watched it all one day, and a lot of the play through is quiet, and they replay 'Last Continue' at least once an hour. (It's why Arino is annoyed they're ending the challenge with it.)

The last batsu games were all 5 hours and it always took them like half a year to finish.
The final sub for the last one was released at the end of May.
They're even much slower than SA GCCX, though.

(I hope they do a live translation again. Last year was amazing when they practically subbed the first 2,5 hours live in the chat while the batsu game aired. Wasn't super good, but enough to be able to understand what was going on.)

Sorry for being so aggressive. It's just that most of us like to talk about GnT aswell without having to go to /jp/, which is a really bad board for people who aren't super weeb otakus.

You haven't even tried creating a thread there. If "GnT" is too mainstream there, create a generell Variety-Thread. Just use your brain a little more. Or create a whole GnT board on some other *chan...

And GCCX is /vr/ related atleast for now until they play non-/vr/ games. Especially with all the visits to arcades or events like the current where they check out really early retro arcade games.
