They are Tibia's current cash-bought currency. You can click on the little icon above your backpack to see what services can be bought for them.
Additionally, they can be traded on the market to players AND they can be sent cross-server meaning someone can send you coins which you can then sell on your world to get gold.
Gear wise you probably want something like
zaoan helmet
regular bow then elven bow when you can use it
paladin armour
zaoan legs
boh
if you're poor you can swap out zao pieces with knight pieces or something
also if you're not PACC and can't get all blessings it's probably not smart to run around with those so knight pieces might be better off for now

NA people play on Fidera mainly, Yurops on Secura.
Both are fairly dead, I imagine Secura is slightly less dead, as Dogon/other people play there.
On fedora, Sephi/whatever he calls himself plays a lot, though he's higher level and plays with his friends a lot, donno how many lowbies play.
Selken might play, I don't know how active they are.
With Divine Justice falling apart on Fedora, not really sure how English Speakers will rally about, probably with Drunken Dwarfs or whatever it's called.

It is playable, yes... but you'll be far slower than you should be, and probably twice + the latency you'd usually be. Essentially it's annoying, it gets frustrating knowing that you'll never be as effective as you should be, you'll probably take more damage and waste supplies.
Why are we dead? People get bored/move on/get busy with RL shit.
I'll probably actually play one of these days, I stopped playing Destiny and don't have much better to do in my free-time. Moving back to /vr/ lends itself to less inflow of new people, but we're not active enough to warrant /vg/, and would require us to spam bump more than we already do.
TL;DR: We're not dead for any particular reason, Secura is "playable", but not really. Could work with a VPN/proxy but meh

Walked through a portal about 2m after this and was hit by 5 monsters at once, tried to grab a Screenshot but I had it replacing num w/ function keys so it closed instead.
You can probably face them as a mage without magic shield as long as there aren't too many on the screen (if you're 250+), I did the first 2~ floors besides the TPs without it.
It's a clusterfuck, stairs are a deathzone because 1billion monsters down, TPs are a death sentence as well as they're pretty much more lethal stairs.
Jay and others voiced their complaints so I assume it'll be tuned properly.

After missing the first day of testing and skipping the second day to wait for Feroxa (only got a trophy, boooo) I spent today running around Krailos exploring and doing the odd quest... There's a nightmare/nightmare scion/undead glad cave north west and a bug cave south east. The whole surface is full of ogres and ... clomps. Which all kinda hurt and use weak drunk spells frequently. There's like 5 dragons to the south. A brimstone/widow/gs cave south east. The bug cave is densely packed but really small. The spam of water elementals in the underwater tunnel to a quest mcguffin is a bit shit. The mini dp is cute.
I might try the Ferumbras stuff tomorrow. Or not. Seems like people in EC were just giving up today because of all the luring.

the issue is that if you take into account the opportunity-cost of manasitting, you are giving up/losing:
-leveling really fast (because you burn up stamina because you need soul)

yeah avalanches are pretty much they only rune you can make and sell to get profit as a druid
but i think if your mlvl is around 40 and lvl 35+ then you could hunt something like ancient scarabs using fire walls and get profit or break even in the worst case (need to loot gp)
