My run through all the gens continues tonight. Per the rules I laid out, because I beat the elite four I replaced my normal starter with a "reincarnation" (AKA devolved and level 5) of a survivor of my championship team. My blue run I was fortunate enough to have my starter survive, so that seemed the most fitting one to continue on with me.
Crystal will be played to 16 badges. Call me a casual if you like, but I just don't want to bother with grinding to Red.
Normal Nuzlocke rules apply, no dupes clause (I think the dupes clause takes out some of the challenge) and no "but I don't have pokeballs yet" exception, so in this case my first capture was on route 31.
First capture also is a reincarnation of my championship team, a poliwrath named Thrasher, who turns out was a girl this whole time!

Ended up overleveled just by virtue of going through sprout tower first and having a small team. I generally try to follow the "Under the level of their ace" rule but that's just a cue to stop grinding, not to stop using the mon if I am actually using it to make legitimate progress.
Gonna be skipping the ruins of Alph until I get surf and such later so I can get one of the grass mons instead of a useless letter. So I am gonna head down towards Bugs.

So would you guys recommend a Nuzlocke for XY?
S&M hype has me feeling some kind of way so I thought I'd revisit the game, but I recall people criticizing Gen 5 Nuzlockes because of convenient healing, so I can't imagine this game in much better in the forgiveness department.
For reference I've only done two Nuzlockes so far and they were both blow ups. My Emerald file was lost, and FireRed had a decent run up to the Elite 4 where I got BTFO'd for being lazy on that final gym level-curve.

I was looking into doing a run for the "Wilting Y" romhack because I heard the game is more balanced around the experience system, and gym leaders/Elites have a full team + Mega Evo, but then I read that all 700 pokemon are available within the game so that kinda killed my interest.

SJW Nuzlocke:
At least half of your party must be female or genderless, rounded down, meaning-
(1 female/genderless in a party of 3,
2 female/genderless in a party of 5).
You can't catch any more males if the number of female/genderless are less than half, or would equal less than half after catching another male.
If any female/genderless fainting brings the number of female/genderless below half, you must catch enough female/genderless to restore the ratio in the nearest area before continuing- unless you have no way to catch any more pokemon.
If you have a full party, you can catch males and store them as extras on the pc.
Finding a wild male Shiny at any time negates these rules; fuck missing out on catching a shiny because of a sarcastic social statement.
Male Shinys can only replace other male party members.

The fact that I got a Geodude after Union cave made her miltank not the threat it really could have been, I also got really lucky with rollout misses so it never did that much damage.
The scariest part was Bubba vs the Clarfairy when Metronome became thunderpunch, Bubba held on with a couple HP and thus I was able to win with no losses.

So what's the rule for special encounters if they're forced on you at the beginning of a new location?
Kalos Route 7 past Camphrier Town has that Snorlax blocking the bridge towards other capture locations, which you can't get past until actually battling him.
Did everybody here just rock the Snorlax from Route 7 or what? This isn't even like other Snorlax cases where you can fish around him or something ala Gen 1, you pretty have the encounter it before finding anything else.

Some people enact a "Snorlax clause" in the same way that there's a Pidgey clause for the first encounter of XY you're supposedly forced into, but it's technically cheating, you can actually grow berries in the garden and capture either Ledyba, Volbat, Illumise, and Spewpa.
But since they're all pretty trash and out of the way, I'd imagine most people go with a free Snorlax anyway.

Finished my first Nuzlocke of Pokemon Y, its a lot harder than you think with EXP share off and battle style on set. Ended up only losing my level 27 Tauros to Diantha to safely switch in to Durant to kill Mega Gardivoir (brought him as a sacrifice).

Hey here's some advice for Nuzlockers who get all cocky and decide to pick the Pokemon weak against the first gyms.
Don't.
You are not playing to be based, you are playing to win. I made that mistake too, I was all 'ooh Imma get a Charizard', and a Charizard won't help you when all you have for your run up to Misty is a Magikarp, a Zubat, an Ekans, a Pidgeotto, a Charmeleon and a Mankey. Starmie one shot EVERYONE.

I'm starting an HG Nuzlocke with a few special rules. Several only apply to HGSS and are spoilered:
>You must choose Chikorita.
>All revives, max revives, and rare candies must be trashed. You cannot sell them.
>You can never own more than 6 Pokemon, as all of the PCs are "broken" and anything put in the box will die.The Togepi egg is an exception to this rule, as it's forced on you, but it can only be inserted as an egg.

Scyther should be able to handle most of Korrina's team if you can get a Swords Dance off somehow. Also if you haven't fished in the cities yet there's a good chance of getting a Staryu, which will help too.

All things considered reaching the third gym isn't too bad for a romhack that thinks adding a Speed Boost Torchic and Venipede before the first gym and giving Breloom a random focus sash is "balancing the game for experience share." Considering it was my second Nuzlocke ever, I should have known better, but I know X&Y is inherently piss-easy so it wouldn't mean shit, and from the wording of Withling Y I wouldn't think the easiest mode was still absurd Smogon imitations.
Just watching my Rocky Helmet Furret carry the team after losing both of my starters was a treat in itself, Seviper and (somehow) Dunsparce were fun too.
A lot of long, narrow-bodied captures in this run, oddly enough.

Resuming my crystal run just got through the burned tower.
Caught a pidgey and two ratattas. And decided on Eevee as my goldenrod mon (I was leaning towards buying an Abra from the game corner).
Had a bit of a dangerous moment early this fight where Geochick where I forgot geochick was confused and only accounted for her taking the sonicboom damage. I got lucky and she didn't kill herself, but it was pretty stupid.

Several real life errands and a small amount of grinding later, Morty is down.
It kinda bugs me that there is not a single Misdrevious in this gym, Geochick was able to magnitude everything in here to death and evolved in the process.
Next gen I won't have the option of ground attacking every ghost, but it sure is doing wonders for now. Lighthouse is up next.

Wew, I was worried about her Kingdra, but even its hyper beam couldn't do that much to Bubba, so it was a lot of enduring attacks and healing.
Probably would have been boned if I was on a "no healing items" run, but I also would have likely done more grinding in that case...
