They're still promoting Serena's crush heavily with the dance ep, Millefeui's teasing moments, and all the stuff that Japanese fans see outside the show like them saying Serena would make a good wife, etc.
You would think they would downplay Serena's crush similar to what happened to Pokeshipping in Johto if they knew they were going to kill it off. If anything it makes you wonder why the writers are still going so heavily with it.
