Well, in terms of how many of the team has fully evolved, this still does not match DP, but it's an unfair comparison since we are comparing a full team of 6 to only 5. However, if Noibat does evolve, then it's the only poke he has right now that can still evolve, whereas Buizel could still evolve, but never did for an unexplained reason.

Noibat is confirmed to evolve in two episodes and he already evolved a Goomy all the way to Goodra. It's not currently on his team, but since it's basically confirmed a sixth capture isn't happening, the most likely possibility is that it comes back for the league a la Gliscor. Well, the reason why most people don't both with anything but the league is that we've already seen him fight successfully against gym leaders, so that's not interesting, either. I think that the only reason some still do bother with it is that it's supposed to be the highlights of the series, but none of it is anything we haven't seen before. I will admit that the League itself is just as repetitive, using the same kind of writing as the gym battles. The only thing making it worth anything is to see how it plays out, since that is never the same, other than mysterious new trainer kicks Ash's butt. If they go against that, what then? True, each league is still it's own challenge, but then, there would be no reason to watch the League either since we know he can do that too. We'd essentially be waiting for the E4/Champion, which as far as we know, you can keep doing that until you win. That would effectively make the entire arc of any region completely pointless if we know he can go through any of them. It is simpler for them to just cockblock and keep the cycle going for all eternity.

The league would be a different arena for the two of them to battle on equal terms based on how well they actually battle. The storyline battle concerning Team Flare is entangled with themes about what's right and wrong and the bond between Ash and his Greninja. These things assure Ash's victory in the story, but not in the league where writers can say that Alan suddenly wants a fair fight with Ash. It doesn't really contradict the story to have Alan beat Ash later, and it's not as if the writers are thinking too hard about Alan's personal motive for beating Ash.
