We all know from the New Year's special and from XY&Z episodes we've already seen that Ash-Greninja (at least for now) is a form that seems to kick in at the climactic peak of the battle, say, when Greninja is in a pinch.
Versus Alan, Greninja starts off in his normal form, as we'd expect. Then, at some point, he syncs with Ash, taking on the Ash-Greninja form.
But at what point, if any, will Ash and Greninja learn how to achieve this form at will, as opposed to only when in a pinch? Just as a true mega evolution-capable Pokemon could mega evolve at will?

Ash is getting ready for the finals, Bonnie and Clemont are up in the stands already and Clemont asks where Serena has gone to since she isn't with them. Bonnie being the smug loli that she is says that Serena had something to do before hand.
Cut to Ash being slightly nervous since this is his first time reaching the finals, waiting with Pikachu or whatever. Serena enters his dressing room or the hallway where he'll enter from is, and asks him how he's doing. He'll be slightly startled at her showing up, but he'll answer her truthfully about how he's feeling.
They'll talk for a bit, then an announcement states that the battle is about to begin. Before Ash takes off for the field, Serena wishes him good luck and that she has something to tell him after the battle, then sucking up her betaness she gives him a quick peck on the cheek before turning heel and running out of the room, just before she leaves she hears Ash say that he'll win it. Not seeing the confident grin on his face.
Ash heads out to the field feeling 100% better after speaking to Serena.
After battle, Ash and GreninjAsh have just delivered the finishing blow and have been declared the winners. Ash follows to his knees, looks to the sky and screams, "SEEERENA!!!!!"

So I just returned to Pokémon anime since BW and holy shit that Serena girl is annoying and clingy.
Why has my Pokémon female protagonist, who battled almost same amount as Ash, turned to such useless piece of shit who rarely battles and is only there as shipping bait? She is probably even more worse than Iris and Misty. Three pokéfags recommened me to watch this thing and the Specials. I liked the battles, Clemont, Bonnie, some of the gym leaders, art style was great compared to other series and I really loved the idea of the ME specials and the connection between them and the main series. But since that Serena came along, I have felt really uneasy during the series. At first I did like her because she was CUTE and liked Ash, but when the crush started to take place too often and Serena just stood there doing nothing, I started to feel that uneasyness. Serena do still have some good moments when she is on the stage, is with her pokémon and when she is doing something "strong" and not standing there, hand on her chest and screaming for "Satoshi!". Overall, I think that Serena's character would improve a lot when she is ready to let go of Ash and is ready to leave to do her own thing at the end of the series. Then I will accept Serena as a strong and good female character who chases her dreams and not as a useless fangirl who's dream is to be Ash's housewife who is sadly going to be abandoned like many other mothers in pokémon world.
