Maybe I do not understand the power-up/cp/evolution dynamic in GO?
I initially thought that you should catch a pokemon. power it up as much as you can, then evolve it and repeat the process because the evolved form can power-up even further.
But I also heard that you want to find the lowest CP pokemon you can and evolve them asap, then start powering them up after evoling all the way.
And then I heard you want high CP pokemon that you can evolve and power-up even more.
I am legitimately confused as to the process used here. It seems vastly different from the handheld games.

No. Higher CP is always better. Pokemon have a CP cap based on species and your own level, so their cap will go up when you level up, but each member of the species will have the same cap. If you have multiple Pokemon of the same species with different CP, the higher one is always better. They all have the same cap, but obviously the higher ones will take less upgrading to get there.

I see. When I say species, I mean specific Pokemon. When they evolve, their CP cap goes up, but it's proportional to where it started.
So let's say you're Level 10, and have a Gastly that's at about 60% on the CP arc. If you level up to 11, it'll stay at the same CP, but it'll drop to (hypothetically) 45% on the arc, because there's now a higher cap. And now let's say you evolve it to Haunter. It'll have a higher CP, but it'll stay at 45% on the arc because the cap proportionally went up with the evolution.

friend of mine caught an aerodactyl, dragonair, infinite dratinis at the pier. Westwood has so many karps, and a gyarados every now and again. Lil T has some good shit like venasaur. The pier is where everyone goes though because the best mons pop there.
