From my experience the radar tracks things that are within about 200 yards. If you've walked that distance and nothing has changed then it's a server fuck-up, and you should close the app and restart it.

So I've been going to the local mall and using their wifi (don't have a plan yet) anywhere from noon-evening.
When logging in with Google, it brings up pic related.
When using the Pokemon club account, it gets the"unable to authenticate" error most of the time. When it does log in, it does the "caught Pokemon hangs there" thing.
There's many people in the mall who are playing the game fine on their phones.

bluestacks Spoofer here, im having trouble logging in without my google account attached. Every now and then it kicks me out and says it had problems signing in. After that if I attach the account it works fine for a bit, then catching causes it to crash. After that removing the google account fixes it AGAIN for a while, but soon after that, it says it has problems signing in.

This is one reason why it's hard to play in my town, it's crisscrossed by busy routes and interstates so you need to drive to get to pokestops, and there's only a few good places in town where you can actually walk for pokemon. (And it's in a park so they're all water types).

the whole gym mechanic seems broken - leveling up takes way too long and it's far too easy to take over the gym of another color since you automatically get 6 pokemon and can just keep fighting as many times in a row as you want. The exp from battling doesn't seem worth it at all.

You get coins just for installing your pokemon there, and can cash them in at the gym when you want.
The system is heavily weighted to favor trainers who attack gyms, as it takes a lot more friendly team members to keep a gym's prestige up than it does for an opposing team to bring it down.
Defeating a gym's pokemon with a full 6 pokemon party decreases its prestige by 1000s of points, whereas a successful training battle against the same gym with only one pokemon only increases it by a few hundred points.

Dodging really only is effective for an opponent's special moves because you get a warning and a long animation to watch for.
Really the whole system is fucked because battles go according to what animations go off, and the server lag makes it so that sometimes it doesn't read your inputs and won't trigger your own attacks or dodges in time.
This is also why attacks with long attack animations aren't worth the trouble because by the time you get the attack off, you've already eaten like a dozen enemy attacks.
It's not your fault, it's just the game being a buggy unbalanced mess.

I personally got a new phone because the music constantly stopping is just too damn annoying for me, especially if you have to exit the app to launch it again and becaue of the servers only letting you in 1 time out of 4 but if it's fine for you, go for it. Check the bands used for the 3G with your 3D provider just in case butfor 3G it usually isn't a problem, they mainly fuck up with 4G
I personally got a Zenfone 2 for cheap a short time ago because of the sales right now, so I think you can fin a better one for this price or a cheaper one if you don't care about AR, but it might be a bit annoying to do so this one may be a sure bet.

I believe on google maps you can point out a landmark. If enough people do it and it's legitimate, it'll be designated a landmark on google maps and then a pokestop on GO.
Just make sure to point out actual landmarks. Churchs, municipal buildings, libraries, fire departments, stuff like that. Also look for any war monuments in your town to peg, a lot of them are smaller than you think.

You're not going to do crazy things with it but it works. It even has an ARM CPU which was a big problem with Go with "higher" zenfone at the beginning (the proc. was an intel and therefore wasn't compatible)
If you don't really care for high specs or AR, might as well take the best quality/price that you'll find. Go really doesn't use that much ram/cpu, it should work on anything that isn't a 2013/2014 low-end phone. Heck, Apple users will kill me but the fact that it runs even on older iPhones show that you don't need something huge for it to work confortably.
