the gameplay has nothing to do with the series. having only the original 151 available ensures maximum nostalgia mostly for people who haven’t played the series since the 90s. it also panders heavily to the anime with the animations for the pokéball.
this game is targeted at 20-somethings who watched the anime after school once a week, played red or blue version, then moved on with their lives.
there’s a huge emphasis on quantity over bond. which is funny because even the anime was against this idea. Gary caught loads and loads of pokemon while Ash chose to have a strong bond with only a few special pokémon that meant something to him.
but now it’s “capture and trash 30 of x pokemon to get Y evolution,” and that’s fucking depressing. the game is literally equating the experience, life and happiness of one species as being worth less than another inherently. the spirit of the series says that someone can go, catch one caterpie, and live a full life with it never evolving, because it’s still a living, thinking pokémon.
maybe I’m getting to emotionally attached to fictional biology, but…this does NOT feel right.

Well, that's a problem because walking around at night out here is a no go. Coyotes, lack of sidewalks, lack of streetlights, and gun toting rednecks ready to shoot anything that moves means that it's best to go out during the day. The servers have gone up at about 7-8 PM EST for the past few days, so that's when I've been going out, but I always have to be home before dark due to the aforementioned factors.
