I can set it to keep the screen on for 10 minutes max when idle. Pretty annoying. Also a little worried about screen burn in if I keep the game running, but I guess if you're moving it probably refreshes enough to not be a problem.

If you leave it idle, a Pokemon might spawn in your area and it can alert you. If you're out walking you could just set it in your pocket and wait for it to vibrate rather than ensuring it stays open.

It has an Edge panel for compatible Samsung Edge devices and a widget for everything else. The design is pretty shitty but it might be functionally what you need.
A bright screen wake lock is the default, so tap over to dim to help prevent screen burn and save some power. If you manually lock your phone (with the power button) the wake lock will reactivate when you unlock the phone again (it's not a CPU/partial wake lock that will keep the device awake when you manually put it to sleep) and you can put the wakelock on a timer as well so that it will disable automatically.
