Selecting a pokemon from this menu displays it on your main screen so you can easily see the distance, without having to go into that menu all the time.

I'm having this issue where my GPS is picking up where I'm at but the pokemon never update, the only way I can get it to find anything around me is to log out and back in, and after a few times it will lock me out of my account. I know the OP said something about problems, but nobody I know is having this and I wanted to know if anyone who may have knows what to do about it.
If I got an XL first evolution, should I max it out before evolving it? Or just evolve it as quickly as possible and max out the final form?

take a gym, preferably one with a bench nearby, set up 10CP pokemon in it, then train at the gym, pitting your 300+CP pokemon against it.

50xp per fight, with growth egg that's 100 per fight,
you should be able to 1 shot kill the pokemon, so each fight would be 15 - 20 seconds. but you shouldn't get hit so you won't waste potions.
