Fish can be ugly as fuck in real life. Plus its based off of Hawaii's state fish, so it's a pretty appropriate addition. Besides, I actually enjoy the addition of pokemon that add to the overall flavor or feel of a region. I wouldn't say I like Corsola or Luvdisc as far as personal preference, but I like that they exist becase it rounds out the world. This thing definitely fits the tropical bill, it works.
Plus, it's ability is interesting. As long as they dont go full tard and give to every pokemon, it'll be interesting to have a few key pokemon in the meta that are full priority resistant, especially if theyre a speedy attacker.

Vannilluxe has much more in commom with icecreams in general. The only giveaway that it's actually an icicle comes from the blue cone. From the moment you have to pull images of icicles from Google and make passionate texts about how ridicously clever is having an icicle that kind of looks like an icecream, you know you're defending a shit design. Something like Hydreigon or Volcarona have immediate appeal, they catch the eye. And if you decide to research further, you find their neat secondary inspirations. But you don't have to justify their existence by making a fucking essay about them, which is why they're considered good designs and Vannilluxe is considered a chilling pile of garbage.

Chandelure is incredibly popular. You'd never guess since he's based on a chandelier and historically the pokémon fanbase is not big into object pokémon, but really helps my point that at the end of the day execution is what matters. Sure I won't deny ice-cream is a rough concept to make it work, but Vanilluxe failed on a concept and on execution, hence being a pokémon that is rightfully shat upon
Besides I never claimed that all pokémon must be "cool badasses" like Greninja. There's definitevely room for the bizarre and supernatural. Hell Sigilyph is my favorite pokémon.
