Why do new pokemon look so ugly with a few exceptions such as pic related.

To this day, I still consider anything past gen 2 as new.. Dont know why. I was a kid when Gen 1 and 2 were out, but a teen when Gen 3 came out, so I still kind of consider it the "new pokemon" even though it's at least 10 years old now.
