Seriously, Bulbasaur would've been a perfect addition to Ash's team in Unova and we wouldn't have had to deal with oh so unique Ash-Greninja.

Pre-XY I actually pictured out the scenario
-May pops by Oak's for a visit and throws out Venusaur to visit Bulbasaur
-Queue Bulba's awkard/slightly scared face as May's Venusaur is rubbing all lovey dovey against Bulba
-Later that day Pokemon are arguing as Bulba tries to break them up, but they begin to argue over Bulba, squishing him between them, making him feel even smaller
-As Bulba is getting squished Torterra comes out and stops the ground, causing it to shake, the Pokemon immediately stop quarreling and Torterra smiles at Bulba
-Queue awkard Bulba face again
-Bulba walks into Oak's lab at the end of a phone call with Ash and immediately rushes over just in time for the call to end
-He gestures towards the screen, prompting Oak to deduce that he wants to be with Ash for awhile
-Ash mentioned heading back to Lumiose during the call so Oak sends Bulba to Sycamore for safe keeping while he waits for Ash
-Ash is surprised by Bulba but happy, takes him with, surprised when Bulba evolves at the end of the same episode against TR foiling them with an Ivysaur Solar Beam
-After evolving into Venusaur, becomes Ash's mega
-At the end of Kalos, Venusaur is seen happy with May's Venusaur and curb stomping misbehaving Pokemon with a look of joy on his face

Bulbasaur has only ever flat out refused to evolve once in the secret garden episode when Venusaur was forcing the evolution. Bulbasaur wasn't ready to evolve at that point and has been boxed 99% of the time since Johto.

That scenario is ridiculous for a few reasons.
-May's VA is pretty much out of commission so that means so is May and by extension her Venasaur.
-Bulbasaur was pretty much going to die in Johto when that giant boulder was going to crush him but he still didn't evolve.
-Bulbasaur's been shown to be as strong as fully evolved Pokemon so he wouldn't need to evolve.
-It's also assuming Bulbasaur if he did evolve into Ivysaur would want to go into Venasaur.
-May's Venasaur is off doing contests.
