I personally feel all the gen-4 starters had awkward middle stages. Grotle, Monferno and Prinplup are all varying stages of ugly to me, solely to fill space until final evolution. It's acceptable because their final stages are just that good, but it's just weird.

I think grotle is the least offensive of the three. It's not stellar, but it is certainly better than something like Metang.

Pokemon should be designed as if they were to go down in history.

This seems the right place to ask. Which one of the two you guys like more? I can't pick between bulba and squirtle because I like both mid evos too much. And I'm not evolving them to venusaur/blastoise.

Always had a soft spot for Wartortle. As much as I appreciate a massive turtle with cannons coming out of its back I like that Wartortle is more streamlined and looks like it'd be pretty zippy in the water. Plus the wings and tail are neat.
