Honestly I'm glad 8 decided to give up on pokemon. It made coming back feel better after giving it some time to cool. I skipped a few episodes but it's interesting to see just how far this show has come.
The battles have more enthusiasm behind them. The trainers and pokemon come up with good strategies. Granted I still see dancing while battling a little bit stupid the characters dancing seems so funny at the same time.
Every now and then when something evolves it seems reasonable. I still think evolving during battle is still cool i want this added to a game at somepoint. That seems to be what megas do without having to change into a different evolution. Making battles more intense than usual.
I just wish if the show had changed the way Ash interacts with the female sidekick seemed a little bit less obvious it wasn't going to go anywhere romantic but still tease it anyway more and more as I watch.

Brock went along because he wanted to be a breeder, Cilan wanted to understand Ash's Pokemon battling internal enigma after getting beat by him, and Clemont believed he could get stronger going with Ash. Tracey wanted to meet Oak and Ash was his ticket. I don't know about Tracey but Brock and Clian had some decent reason for going same with Serena.

If Ash does that thing, then he would be in the same pedestal as Kenji Harima or Mamoru Endou (i know there were more cases when MC ends up with the tsundere ojousama through melting the thick icewall of hers with his conviction/special charm/sheer luck, but i'm more aware of School Rumble and Inazuma Eleven/GO cases). But actual Ash is more the Naruto-type of character regarding the type of girls he attracts with his passionate and upbeat personality.
Ash is more likely akin to end up with a meek country girl or a normie girl. Ojousama-type of girls are still big words for a generic shonen boy like him.

This was after all the anxiety of leaving home and finding a goal she cares about, and the drama with her mom, and all the support and expectations from her friends.
