The difference is AG and DP were written as direct sequels to the OS hence everything continued and old stuff and characters were constantly brought up. I assume BW's semi-reboot status sort of carried over into XY.

Contests were always a parallel to the Pokémon League, with Top Coordinator being the equivalent of a Champion. They were always presented as something that could happen literally in every region.
It's different with Tripokalons, Serena is aiming to become the KALOS Queen. Not to mention it would be out of character for Serena to suddenly compete for the title of Alola Queen. Why would she give up her dream of becoming Queen in her home region?
Besides, why any of you think Tripokalons are returning in Alola? The writers rushed Serena's arc like hell. She took longer to make her Tripokalon debut (60 episodes) than she took to lose to Elle in the Master Class (53 episodes). The writers themselves gave up Tripokalons and they couldn't even think of new themes (that's why we had to endure two Pofflés themes and that group of Rhyhorn horny for Serena, also the Master Class had no theme, just free performances).
Face it anons. Tripokalons are done. Luna will have a goal other than being a boring Performer, hopefully it will include battles.

There weren't contests in Unova. They only had Pokemon Musicals and Dawn talks about her coming to see the Musicals for inspiration for Contests as well as coming for the Jr. Tournament.

Anon, they weren't. They were introduced as something that occurred in Hoenn only because they never got mentioned in other regions. It wasn't until AFTER Hoenn that it got mentioned in Kanto.
Even Dawn mentions that she's going to Hoenn where Contests originated from.
Kalos Queen is all that's known at the moment but that doesn't insinuate that they won't put them in other regions like they did with Contests.
You're assuming "Luna" is the one that gets in the anime. You have Lillie, you have Serena that share resemblance to your "Luna". You're also assuming they won't give "Luna" a similar goal without battling because Ash is the battler.

Wrong. The Sinnoh Contests focused heavily on performances, they even included the Double Performance rule. The Hearthome Contest doesn't even show the characters battling, they just show them performing.
Not to mention that 5 Ribbons were needed to enter the Grand Festival, while only 3 Keys are needed to enter the Master Class. The reason for this is the fact Tripokalons took so long to be introduced in the show. It was a half-assed addition tailor-made for Serena (I mean... baking, dancing, Rhyhorn? Really?) that is not going to make a return in Alola. The sooner you accept that, the better for your already frail mental health.

Not really. Contests were solely about showing off your Pokemon, usually 1 sometimes 2. TriPokalons is showing off both performer and Pokemon and you can use op to 6. There's a slight difference there but yeah it'd be more similar to contests which in my opinion are superior anyway.

Five ribbons for each of the categories while Tripokalons only needed three because they were short. Tripokalons took so long because of ORAS and even then they were always short so you can't rush through them. The fact that you don't like them doesn't mean they can't put them in. You're talking about frail mental health yet here you are thinking they won't end up doing something similar in Alola.
