desu the idea that Moon = Night = Dark is more contrived. There's no basis for it aside from weak association. Even Lunatone is psychic/rock, and not a Dark type. The moon is not associated with the Dark pokemon type in Japan, for one because it's more associated with light, and for another because it's not seen as evil.
