I never realized the third version sales were so shitty.
I remember thinking they had to be as a kid, because even when I was eight years old I had enough business sense to realize that no parent on earth would buy their kid a game they already own(and no parent on earth would give a shit that Emerald has pokemon you can't catch in Sapphire), but those numbers are way WAY shittier than I would have thought.
Hopefully they've learned their lesson after 5 generations of the same mistake. Gen 6 makes it look possible.

Underages need not to apply. RSE was not only one of the best selling games of the franchise, but also very defining games for everyone who played them at the time.
DPPt did sell more than RSE, but the problem is that they only sold a couple million more, when DS sold almost twice as GBA. In numbers, 27,65% of the people who bought a GBA, also bought RSE, while only 16.38% of the DS buyers got DPPt.
Other games: 38,79% for RGBY/GB
24,84% for GSC/GB
15.66% for BWBW2/DS
27,05% for XY/3DS
21,78% for ORAS/3DS
I'm not saying that DP remakes are not happening, actually they probably will at some point; DPPt and BW were very profitable, but not nearly as much as they expected, since DS was their best selling console of all time, surpassing Gameboy and Wii.

It was their own damn fault for rushing them so much. Diamond and Pearl are objectively terrible and they don't deserve to be called Pokemon games.
Thankfully Platinum manages to fix nearly all of their issues and make Sinnoh a pretty great region, but third game sales are always terrible, and when the first two are complete garbage I can see why people would be hesitant to buy the third games.
This is actually part of why I'm excited for Sinnoh remakes. It would be nice to see the region done justice. I doubt we're getting them until 8th gen though. Gotta make Blazing FireRed and Verdant LeafGreen first because everyone is just dying to go to Kanto another fucking time.

Well there was also the fact that every interesting Sinnoh pokemon was almost impossible to find until postgame, and that just about every wild pokemon you ran into was some old shitmon from a previous gen, not to mention the godawful type diversity and the overabundance of shitty HMs everywhere, but that's about it for Sinnoh's flaws as far as I can remember. Everything else like the shitty surfing speed and innumerable bugs were a gen 4 thing, and would be gone in the remakes.

Well I would agree but think about it. Do we really foresee there being sequel versions to SM in 2017 or 2018? Do we think they would just have nothing until Gen 8 comes out? It's likely that something will be remade and I'm pretty sure that Kanto would come in an anniversary year and we already know that won't be this year. I'd believe it if we got DP remakes next year as much as I'm not ready for it.
