I think what makes the Ballio pokemon some credit is that all the Pokemon have "Pokemon" designs, and go in a direction no one expected, but seems legitimate. Everyone expected Popplio to be some elegant seal. Everyone expected Rowlet to be some fancy my mom's owl.
Literally no one making a fake leak would've made rowlet some assassin. Nor give him some hood thing.

I'm with this guy, specially for the whole assassin Rowlet thing. It's very out there, but not completely out there, if you read Rowlet's description in the official site it says some shit about being stealth and attacking from the shadows, so even if it's not apparent from the visual design you can still see the Pokémon itself evolving into an assassin. If this turns out to be fake (what a twist!), I'd still expect some fancy, bowtie-wearing dark assassin. James Bond?

One thing to note is that they might be doing another international release like with XY, which greatly increases the chance of a leak on our side of the pond.

I say this as someone who first learned through art by copying other people's art. People who didn't realize these were fakes clearly do not have a full grasp on how art design/monster design works for either Sugimori or Ohmura, they just assume they do.
It takes a very special kind of skill to truly nail that art style + making that monster design clever enough to fit into the pokemon world.
For someone to pull off something like Ballio or Owltair, it would have to take at least two artists while constantly brainstorming because these concepts make far too much sense with their actual species.

It's going with Litten's dex entry. That they shed their fur by burning it off. So the middle evo is a larger Litten who finally sheds all the excess fur.
Going by the possibility that Rowlet's final evolution ends up being Grass/Ground, I want to see a comic with Owltair lamenting that it cannot fly anymore. This gives Ballio the idea to grab and toss Owltair into the skies in a genuine attempt to help.
