I hate gen 1 revisionism.
Basically, the artists were hacks, hence the samedesign on so many pokemon. This is why so many look like dinosaurs, this is why so many evolve into the same thing only bigger/more heads.
Not to mention that the original art and sprites look very different from what we see today.
