Being able to rank high on a format where you have no idea what you or your opponent will bring and being able to successfully use your Pokemon to come out victorious, despite the possibility of your opponent having the better win condition, should prove you are truly skilled at the game. Actively putting effort into laddering on any vidya is kinda pathetic in my eyes. The reason is kinda anecdotal but every time I meet a top player IRL their rank is literally the only thing in their life they can be proud of.

sure sometimes they get 5 legendaries and you get 5 shitmons and it's an instalose, but most of the time randbats are quite fun
