I mean sure, it's a wasted move spot and you're relying on your opponent to fuck up, but it at LEAST sets up the Houndoom in the event someone else is likely to sweep it if it doesn't get the mega's speed before the next turn.
On the other hand, some dumbfuck will anticipate it and go for something with DDance and fuck your shit on the next turn anyway.

That is a real downside and thing that I dislike about pokemon. Why catch a new pokemon and grind him when you can keep using the your previous solution that is going to be a much higher level and therefore more powerful anyway?
The first time that I ever played pokemon, it was Red. I chose charmander. I beat the entire game only using charmander. I embered the fuck out of geodude and onyx. I embered the fuck out of Misty's pokemon too. It just never made any sense to grind six pokemon when just using one throughout the entire game was so much quicker.

Okay, maybe I have been playing it wrong. But, even when I do use a variety of pokemon, I just pick the one that I know has the type advantage and just sweep with it. I don't find that very challenging, and as for the variety, same tactic/technique different sounds, colors, and move names.
Please, tell me how you satisfying these conditions. I would love to play pokemon again, I am just stuck in a rut, doing the same thing over and over and over again.

Oh well yes you're right pokemon isn't very challenging in of itself. The hardest time ive ever had was vs ghetist and that was because I was underleveled.
A way to add challenge I've found is to try and use a monotype team for the whole playthrough. No legendarys on story teams. And in general to use less items for healing etc.

Fair enough. I don't think I have ever had a pokemon battle with another person, and I think that's where a lot of the fun comes in, but it can take awhile to even reach the point where I have the pokemon that I even want to battle with or use as a team.
I would be down for playing a pokemon hard-mode where strategy and tactics really matter.
I have never found value in status inflictions (with some exceptions), buffs, or debuffs in the regular game. It doesn't make sense to poison an enemy, when you can just hit them two or three times, and the fight is over in the same time or shorter.
I think the only time when I had trouble was fighting against Lance (the dragon E4 guy) in Fire Red. I had to float revive my pokemon so that the one or two that could actually do something against his pokemon could plink away at his defenses. Before that I don't think that I had ever used an item inside of a fight--during that run.
