Why are almost all moth Pokemon incredibly forgettable? Moths are fucking cool animals but Gamefreak keep making shit bland designs for them. Volcarona is good but there's still a load more ideas they could do.

>>26187720

I'm hoping SuMo introduces a Bug/Ice equivalent to Volcarona based on a Luna Moth.
>>
>>26187720
>>26187744
I want a Bug/Fairy based on those cute fluffy moths.

I think a bug type eeveelution based off this would be sweet
>>
>>26187744
Make it Bug/Fairy instead.
>>
Venomoth's one of my top four Kanto mons, Dustox is a huge cutie, and Volcarona is actually really popular. And Mothim is pretty cool.
>>
>>26188052
Mothim is shite and you know it.
>>
>>26188060
Mothim is pretty cool for a single stage
>>

>Implying moths are animals

They're insekts, bro.
>>
>>26188060
Nah, it's pretty neat.

>>26188087
It evolves from Male Burmy.

They're mostly all just generic moths though, moths are such diverse creatures but most of their representations are shockingly uninspired.
>>
>>26187720

Well Volcarona is the most memorable definitely.
Slap in the butterfly mons too, they are on the same forgettable tier, Hoenn bugs especially.

Personally Venomoth always had a special place in my favs through the time, happy to see it getting better through gens too.

Dustox has those nice colors but it's a pain to use in both game and competitive, Mothim is literally who tier, slow frail mon with "high" offensive stats, honestly isn't exactly any better than Wormadam. Dustox at least can rely on meme sets with Iron Defense, Quiver Dance and Roost.

Volcarona is only particularly memorable because half the people who played BW thought it was a legendary at first. Design wise it barely beats out Venomoth, and Dustox shits all over it.
>>
>>26187744
Bug/Water
Moon has tidal links and it would finally be a fully evolved Pokemon with that type.
>>
>>26188145
I'm gonna need a Super Rod for that bait.
>>
>>26188145
I disagree, a white, cyan and orange/red combo is pretty nice, so is its design.
Plus it appeared and commonly appears in the competitive scenes.

Top kek
>>
>>26188123
Tbh moths are more diverse than butterflys. They've basically exhausted the whole butterfly concept with butterfree/beautyfly/vivillion. Plus a lot of people know what Butterfree is so that kind of fills that gap in it's self

A lot of moth pokemon have been overshadowed by other bug types and there really isn't one distinctive "moth" pokemon like Butterfree for butterfly's as none have ever been popular or good enough. Yeah Volcarona is popular but for a moth pokemon its still pretty 'meh'
>>
>>26188131
That move is why i think battle spot singles is much more enjoyable then battle sims. I'll face MegaMawi and Megakhan all day if it means those smogonrocks are barely viable.
>>
Shiny Mothim is so pretty

Mothim, Dustox and Volcarona are anything but forgettable to me.

Their counterpart are the butterfly Pokemon, which are just as forgettable, if not more when compared to Volcarona. Not even Vivillon makes up for it.
>>
Neither Venomoth nor Volcarona is unforgettable. Volcarona is amazing.
>>
>>26188295
I did say Volcarona was the exception but Dustox and Mothim are forgettable to most people along with being just plain bad in game. They're also not really good repersentations of moths either they're just moths and don't really do anything with the concept. Venomoth is OK but is completely overshadowed by both Butterfree and all the better poison types in gen 1.
>>
>>26188317
Venomoth is overshadowed by Butterfree which is 10x more popular. Volcarona yeah OK that's an exception but it still doesn't really do anything with the "moth" concept, especially being fire type which makes no sense.

If it had a moon based counterpart I think that'd be better.

>>26188355
Okay I'm curious, how would you envision a "memorable" moth Pokemon then?
>>
>>26188401
A moth Pokemon that would even go beyond Volcarona in terms of memorability, since a solar flame Atlas moth seems only average at best in your eyes.(forgot to add this to the 1st post)
>>
>>26188148

That would be really nice too.

>>
Why wasn't Vivillon Bug/Fairy?
>>
>>26187767
I want to buy one of these, a poodle moth plushie
>>
>>26188401
I'm not saying volcarona is a bad design, just that there are even more concepts that gamefreak can explore. For example a maybe hellish dark/bug type moth or the Luna moth idea said before. The silkworm moth looks like a pokemon in its self
>>
I know Volcarona is based on the Atlas moth, but are Venomoth or Dustox based off any particular type of moth?
>>
>>26187720
Because with a few exceptions, it took bug until like Gen 5 to stop being shit.

I feel like being weak statwise is just a thing GF tries to keep consistant with bug type mons.
>>
>>26188446
He's right.
>>
>>26188332
Dustox is known and remembered as a shitmon, so it kinda lives, also has its niche fanbase in Japan and even in the other countries.
>>
>>26188453
It was introduced in the same gen Fairy was introduced and there was already a Fairy Gym Leader later, it doesn't learn any Fairy move either except Fairy Wind. Those shit tier Fairy type moves from Gen 6 were spammed on almost every mon, Fairy Wind and Voice something, just to show the new type chart.
>>
>>>26188426
I actually take back what I said about Volcarona, I didn't actually know it was based on the atlas moth. Either way it is only 1 pokemon and the concept of a moth pokemon still feels poorly utilised in the games.

>>
>>26188581
How is dustox a shitmon?
>>
>>26188672

It's terrible even among terrible Pokemon, ergo, a shitmon. And that's okay, you can like Pokemon that are just straight up bad (and being "bad" mechanically doesn't necessarily mean people are saying they hate it or think it looks like crap).

What did you think "shitmon" was supposed to mean?
>>
>>26188635
lewd
>>
>>26188672
it suffers from early bug type syndrome. have you seen it's stat spread?

60/70/90 defenses and 50/50/65 offense isn't stopping anything even with iron defense and quiver but gf logic is "just give it good boosting moves, yeah that'll fix bug types, no need to retcon them

Dustox is based on a moon moth
Venomoth is some sort of swallowtail/arctinnae hybrid. Maybe a muslin moth specifically.
>>
>>26189029
Forgot to mention that Venomoth might be based on a moth with a proboscis as well.

Mothim's design is fantastic, too bad it's stats are shit.

It also has one of the best shinies imo.

I like all the Pokémoths.

So are we going to ever get an "alpha butterfly" like how Volcarona is the "alpha moth"?
