>Can I post NSFW fics?
Absolutely! There are no rules against NSFW text links.

>How should I post my fics?
Please, for the convenience of everyone involved, link to a host like Fanfiction.net, Pastebin or Google Docs rather than dumping your fics in text posts. This not only keeps the thread tidy (and keeps you from getting an infraction for spam), but it also provides a more permanent place to store your work.

>Can I add a fic I wrote to the catalog?
Sure! Check the catalog for the submission link. In there, you can find a link to a Google Form - fill out all the necessary information and it will be submitted for review automatically. Technology is incredible!

We're also looking to collect ideas for fanfics as a resource for stumped writers. Feel free to throw an idea out there; someone may choose to use it themselves!

it's suffering anon, but all we can do is either wait or make it ourselves. Based on my previous works, I'd rather do the former.
>>
>>24700607

This sort of depends on the species of Pokemon. Obviously Pokemon like Dunsparce, Munchlax and basic unevolved Pokemon would be considered the dumbest, while Pokemon like Alakazam, Gardevoir, Metagross, etc. would be much smarter. I hope for the fic to last long term with a planned sequel so I'm really going to focus on world building and Pokemon as individuals.
>>
>>24700367

The way you tackle your plot IMO is going to make or break your story. Too straight/rote/"done before" of a journeyfic, and it'll weigh down on the ability of your setting and worldbuilding to help your fic stand out.

That said, I really like the idea behind the premise, and it actually reminds me of a napkin doodle idea I once had of making a series of worldbuilding-oriented short stories set in a region that was an expy of Taiwan/transparent excuse to dump 5+ generations of Pokémon into a region together.

So yeah, put some thought into that plot and pacing, but I'll be interested to see where you go with it.

If I could say one thing, the the biggest things in my story is the world building, the character development, and the character interaction. Like I'd mentioned, how Pokemon act both on their own and with/around humans is going to be huge.

However, there is lots planned outside of the Pokemon aspect of the story. The main characters are going to have their own motives and reason for why they chose to adventure. There will be backstories to every member of their team, and to them as well. Also some romance, but no sex scenes because I'm basic as fuck and the main focus is the adventure. And the feels.
>>
>>24714642
>>24714642
Be careful how many characters your include. It sounds like you're dealing with at least two trainer protagonists, and if each has a team of six pokemon who you want to be actual characters, you're going to have a time/space issue and probably not get much reader investment in many of those characters.

I don't know what a good number of primary characters is, but my gut says 2-8. When you have too many, the less important ones end up neglected in favor of plot progression.
>>
>>24714642
>>24715215
I'm defintely interested in it, anon. I've been wanting to read a "generic" fic done well for a really long time. The rate at which you introduce characters is definitely going to impact the story as well. You can't throw 10 characters at someone at once and expect them to remember or care about all 10 of them. Since you're going with a new region, leaders, and champion, remember that the media is your friend. I almost never see it used in fics, but it's a great way to learn about things in-world. It's a great way to show interviews or battles or even what the region is like. Of course, no one wants to read about Frank talking to people online for a chapter, but it's definitely a way to build the world and the character. Plus you could do something cute with the romance with texting.

Really looking forward to your story, anon.

-Some advice on writing a story with many characters-
#1: Everyone gets a spotlight, as often as you can. (When events feature more than five members of the cast, only give three full perspectives. If there are five or less, give all perspectives, but make them more succinct than usual.)
#2: Take into account the relationships between characters, thought patterns, specific skills or lack thereof, etc.
#3: Hint at how all of the characters connect to each other. This unifies your story and forces the readers to pay mind to all of the characters you introduce (DRRR! is a good example, as well as Catch-22 by Kurt Vonnegut, even though each character has little development aside from their relevance to the plot, and Sunshine's Rainbow (iirc) by Thomas Pyncheon. All three offer unique perspectives on how to write stories with multiple characters.)
#5 Be prepared to do some research if you want to write characters that are very different from yourself. (A given, you may say, but you'd be surprised how many forget this.)
>>
>>24718012
Not him, but these are very good points.

Only thing is that Catch-22 was written by Joseph Heller.
>>
>>24717655
you'll get some flak in that using too much fake mons will eventually have people suggesting you to make it your own fic without pokemon names.
>>
>>24716942
I liked what I read of it for the most part. From the title, I assume that the story is going to be following Miss Josephine, though I'd rather equal if not more focus on Alice.
> “I'm gonna do it... I'm gonna take you down a peg…”
The wording here seemed weird. I guess because you already said "take you down a peg" earlier in the story. It doesn't seem like something a teenage girl would say when she's pissed off and disheartened at queen bi-Oh fucking shit. Now I get why she has a Vespiquen

Alice's introduction was kinda weird, too. It's very minor, but you say she has "gleaming blue eyes," which leads us to believe that she's happy to see a friend, but then the tone shifts when it reveals that she's pissed off and concerned for her father's health.
>>
>>24718966
Reading back on what you said, yeah I completely agree. Will correct it.

I guess I wrote it faster than I thought, huh?

In any case, the characters introduced in this chapter are what the focus of story will be on (aside from Colander, no-one likes him.)

So don't worry, there are plans for Alice. And I'm so glad you caught the Vespiquen reference.
>>
>>24715215
The story is focused around a main character, with another protagonist and a character you could consider a bit of a minor villain. There are going to be recurring characters that are important to the plot, and most likely some just for a subplot, then of course the high ranking villains. If I could make an estimate, 5 - 10 primary characters would be the most accurate.

Number of Pokemon in a team is a big thing. The only person that may have a full team is the main character because I'm considering the fact that Pokemon are animals and they require food, water, attention, exercise, etc.. Keeping that equal through 6 would start to feel less like friendship and more like a chore, at least for me.

>>24715561
The media will definitely play a part in this. I even have some planned TV shows akin to stuff on National Geographic run by the professors. And with a new region, you get a new Pokedex. Seems to me that with every new gen they're getting more technological and modern, so the one I have might have extra functions. That texting bit gave me some cute and funny ideas, thanks anon. It's important to mention that this story isn't going to have the most ideal romantic ending.

>>24718012
Thanks, anon, I'm definitely taking advice from this post. I'm not sure if I mentioned world building as the dominant aspect of my story or not - either way though, that'd come in second, because first is character interaction and development. However one question I'm struggling with is how perspective will be dealt with, if the story will be told in third person or in first person with changing POVs. I'm hoping to really catch emotions and thought patterns well and I'm ready to do research.
>>
>>24719048
It's impressive that you managed to pump it out, though. I anticipate the rest of it.

Alice falls into a pit and ODs, doesn't she?

>>24720003

>>24710155
I know this is late, but I think Orre can be made into a pseudo-league region. Between the two games, you can turn the Colosseums into "gyms" and have a big tournament at one (probably either Orre Colosseum or Realgam Tower) while the others have to all be won as qualifiers.
>>
>>24721211
This is basically what I do when using Orre as a region a Trainer comes through.

By beating a Colosseum you win that cities Colosseum Symbol, after acquiring 5 you are eligible to fight Orre Colosseum. And since Orre is a criminal filled region, the credit payout is greater then regular regional gyms since less Trainers come to Orre and it comes as an enticing reward for bracing the desert/crime.
>>
>>24721492
I bet one could write an interesting story of the first "season" of that system, when it's just opened and the region is seeing a sort of clash between the old lawless times and a potentially more peaceful future.

Just thinking out loud here.

>>
>>24721613
That gives me an idea for a adventure/crime fic with MC running around trying to become champion of Orre but also trying to enforce the law.

Honestly, I think the biggest thing holding me back from starting an Orre fic, other than my laziness, is the map. I want to play it straight like having various Pokemon across the region (Like the main 6), but the map makes it look like there's 80% desert and 20% grasslands/water/mountains
>>
>>24722382
Try setting a lot of the events in the cities while using what you can get out of the space outside of them, perhaps? You do also have, depending on the placing in the Orre timeline, locations that are not cities like the SS Libra wreck, not to mention placed that got abandoned by XD, like Pyrite Cave and The Under.

I'm interested to see if you do anything with it.

>That reveal
I honestly wasn't expecting it to be someone we already knew, but that's cool. I liked the chapter and think it benefitted from being longer, though I'm unsure how that'll work out later on. It's too early to tell. As a reader, I'm wondering what makes Annabelle so interested in Josephine. She hasn't done anything noteworthy other than bitch at people and win a battle against a weaker Pokemon that had the type advantage. All we know is that she says she's the best Trainer, but we aren't shown it. Putting her up against someone like that in Chapter 2 isn't really an indication of Josephine's strength, either.

I'm writing a fic based in Kanto [cuz genwunner] that is about the life of a kid with little to no interest in becoming a trainer. It takes place in a setting where Kanto was once a powerful state in the world, but at some point entered into a war that would lead into a bloody world war. In the end Kanto was forced to concede and lost half their land to become a soverign state named Johto and Kanto became a police state with many other state's influences (The other regions).

The story follows the child from the day he begins his introduction in school to the opportunity to training to his young adult years.

It's not very deep as far as the narrative, but I have a pretty disgusting and convoluted outline describing things. It's mostly a fic about japanese and german occupations post wwii [and wwi for germany] taking place in a world of pokemon.

But in this war-theory fanfic what would a reader like to see? Would they even be interested in exploring a war torn world of pokemon? It's also one of the few things I've written without any plans for a romance.
>>

>mfw just as I finish reading the chapter, Vespiquen turns up as one of my motivated Pokemon in PSMD
I really liked the chapter, anon. Reading along while you were literally writing it was also pretty cool. I do think that the "Touche" line could be replaced with silence from Josephine. Now that I know where the definitive region for the story is, I'm anxious to see how you incorporate certain gym leaders, specifically a rather cool one. The interaction between Josephine and Caitlin seems like it'll be even more interesting, based on background alone. The media is no doubt going to hound Josephine, and Alice doesn't know what Josephine is doing, so I look forward to see how those two elements mix.

Josephine's character and her team also comes into play. Is her character development done at this point? Like how exactly are you going to show her efforts to be better? Will she keep having success and have her hubris return, or will she have a lot of losses and then fall into depression? How will she grow as a person and a trainer? The questions that lie with her team mainly deal with her experiences so far. Will she keep Vee, or go for a new starter? Now that she knows about Empat-Oh my god, you've done it again. Now that she knows about what Anabel can do, will she look for mainly psychic types or will she just go with what she wants?

It's a minor concern at this point since you said she'll be a main character, but it almost looks like Alice will go the way of the Silver in how she trains her Pokemon since she really wants Josephine dead. Her dad is totally going to bite it.
>>
>>24735079
Yea, the lack of focus in that is definitely something that shows in the first half of the outlines.
I have a few ideas in the air. I'm desperately trying to not make it a revenge story and certainly not one about trying to become the league champ.

The focus ends up becoming based around the effective crime syndicate Team Rocket and the child and his father figure sort of trying to rub them out. But even I'm not in love with that idea, but it's the most fleshed out one I have.

I haven't found one about a post-war region desu. All the one's I could find were taking place during the war and were mostly a collage of violence or hard to understand dialogue. Which I can be guilty of sometimes I'm sure. Do you have a recommendation for inspiration/reference?
>>
>>24735107
I was wondering who was watching me!

Edits are duly noted.

I just ask you to trust me with Josephine on this one, her development is far from over. After all, when one transitions from a life of fame and money to...nothing...it isn't exactly easy.

In fact, as far as I'm aware, Josephine doesn't even know how to work a proper vending machine (SPOILERS)

Anyway, you'll just have to wait and see, I'm afraid.

As for Alice... Doesn't every Pokemon journey need a rival?

Appreciate the feedback.
>>
>>24735147
Oh I definitely trust you, I was just wondering what else she could do. But knowing that she's losing her money and fame is definitely a start. I figured she wasn't living paycheck to paycheck and people would still like her, but from the way you're describing her it looks like she'll be a has-been. Alice being a rival is very clear cut. I'm interested in what you follow up with.

Thanks for writing the story, by the way. It's going to be a fun ride, I can tell.

Have her be from Pyrite Town or something to contrast with MC's Phenac upbringing. She comes from poverty and has a more thug/tough girl attitude from growing up in a criminal run city. She thinks she can tough out anything on her own just like she always has unlike the MC who lived fairly comfortably in Phenac and always had pretty good role models for himself.
>>
>>24735689
I was considering that angle earlier, so I'm glad you think that way, too. Thanks anon. Now I just need to establish a timeline for this. It'll be after XD, but I don't know when. Chris and Jen are going to be in their early 20s, and Michael and Lovrina will be, too. It's just an exact number that I'm trying to find.

"• Set X years after Pokemon XD, the region of Orre is working towards becoming an official host for the Pokemon League. The region must lower the crime rate and get a decent flow of Trainers willing to challenge the League until the Council will accept Orre as a host. Thus, the Orre Reconstruction Initiative was formed. Various other regions (Kanto – Unova) have lent their support to Orre in hopes of getting it on its feet."

I've been lurking for some time, reluctant to either start to write or share my idea here, so i've decided to do just that.

I'm planning to write a police novel, kinda old-school, setting the story around the 20's or 30's. Obviously based on Kalos, since it's the most european place you can find in the Pókemon lands, and the only one with some sort of royalty in it.

Would you read/hate?

I'm always game for a new, interesting take on the Pokemon universe.

However, does your story need to be told in the Pokemon universe? That's one of the most common issues I encounter with most fan stories.

Hey Fanfic/Writethread, I have been here a few times, but I come today with a request, which will challenge your memory on lewd fics.
I am on a search for the best lewd fics, even better if they are story driven, please, share your smut with me.

What I'm looking for is:

TOPPEST TIER:

A lot of people have been telling me that. Several times I have participated in writing contests and all, but I've always been insecure when writing something other than straight up fan fiction.

I feel that fanfiction provides some of a comfort zone for me.

At least, I would like to produce a different take on the Pokémon univserse before moving on and trying to write something outside fan fiction.

Fanfiction is a good avenue to practice story craft. So go for your idea. It also helps you maintain character consistency.

>>24741530
I've been working on the two a little bit, but I don't know when I'm going to get around to writing it. I guess that's a mystery.

Here's what I have so far:
MC
• James Grayson/Richard Lincoln/Christopher Lincoln
• Chris is from Phenac City, while his parents now reside in Agate Town. Growing up in Phenac has given Chris a relatively easy life in comparison to the rest of Orre, but it doesn’t mean that Chris is necessarily blind to what happens in the region. ONBS, the primary news source in Orre, still covers crime, though many of the residents in Phenac turn a blind eye to it. They find it easier to ignore the crime rate rather than try and address it while being caught in the crossfire. After all, most of the crime in Phenac City is white-collar, crime that you can’t physically see. Out of sight, out of mind. Chris sees the ORI as a chance to travel the region and potentially help Orre in the process. Throughout the story, he may find himself involved in more crimes and become increasingly invested in the region’s rehabilitation.
• Chris is a suave young man who is generally laid back about many things. He’s more of a thinker rather than a fighter, but he’ll take pleasure in both activities. Chris enjoys a challenge, and will typically rise to the occasion.

FeMC
• Jennifer Preston
• Jen is from Pyrite Town, born and raised. Growing up in the city has taught her to be tough, and she can hold her own. After the second Shadow Pokemon incident, her parents moved her younger sister Daniele out of the region to stay in Kanto, where Jen’s older brother Jake is taking on the Pokemon League. Jen’s parents offered to take Jen with them, but this was around when the Orre Reconstruction Initiative was announced. Jenny saw the ORI as an opportunity to not only gain money to help support her family (by becoming Champion), but also a way to make her home a better place. Her girlfriends, Sierra and Kendra, share this same goal.
• Jen can be impulsive at times and will end up making brash decisions. That being said, she can almost always be counted on to make tough choices when she needs to. Jen may have a temper on her, but she’s got the heart to match it. She isn’t one to get attached to things quickly, but she isn’t cold either. However, in her experience people from Phenac City or even visitors from Gateon Port have tended to look down on residents of Pyrite due to a false sense of superiority.
>>
>>24741646
Interesting. A question that comes to my mind is, does he perhaps have some connection in some way to that white-collar crime that you mentioned? I don't mean that he is actively involved in it, just that there is some connection via family or friends to it.

>>24741654
On her, I feel like there should be a specific incident in her backstory that is shown to help establish how she learned to be tough. Shadow Pokemon related, perhaps? A first hand encounter with them would certainly motivate the parents to want to move their children to another region.
>>
>>24741878
I think I'll have Chris be relatively cut off from the WCC in Phenac. I don't think that I'd want him to have some sort of involvement or relation to crime, but still be almost apathetic towards it in the beginning of the story. I'm thinking of the colosseum order now, but I'm thinking that Phenac visit 1 will be just starting out, but when Phenac visit 2 happens, Chris will see Phenac in a whole new light.

As for Jen, I'm not sure where I could go with her. There's not a lot of Shadow Pokemon in Pyrite (from XD), but I have Makuhita, Duskull, Vulpix, Ralts, and Mawile to work with if I want to include them. I just don't know what event I want to create to help show why Jen's the way she is.

I do know that I want to include a bar fight at some point in the story. Another struggle though, is where that'll be included, and how Chris and Jen will meet up. I'm currently focused on having them meet at a party, then having a one-night stand sort of thing. Probably not going to write the sex. The only convincing way I'm thinking of right now is having Chris get his Pokemon in Phenac, then beelining straight for Pyrite, when Jen gets her Pokemon. To commemorate the opening of the League and the start of the ORI, there's a giant party being thrown. To get to know the town before the match, Chris goes to the party. Jen goes to the party because hey it's a party. That being said, I'd have to make it clear that Pyrite is the mandatory starting spot for the League. Almost like it's a mainline game sort of deal, where there's usually a set order you have to go through things. All trainers must be registered and all that stuff. Then after their night, Chris and Jen go to the colosseum to register for the League. They catch the first match on TV, since the ORI is getting massive news coverage. The first challenger gets his shit kicked in, so they decide they actually need to train. Cue training.
>>
>>24742001
If I give Chris a friend, then they'll both go to the party together. Maybe Chris and Bro go to hit on Sierra and Kendra, then Chris ends up with Jen, who disliked him at first. The details are hazy, but I'd love any feedback you have. Anything would help.

I definitely have plans for The Under later on. It looks like ORI will be working with 4-6 Colosseums: Orre, Pyrite, Phenac, Realgem, possibly Mt. Battle, and possibly Citadark Isle. Given the nature and appearance of Realgem, it looks like Realgem Tower will be the endgame. Citadark may be endgame too, just because it has rad music.

Fair enough on Chris.

You're right that there aren't a lot of Shadow Pokemon in XD in Pyrite (and most if not all of them are held by the Cipher forces that invade ONBS, so they aren't actually "native" to Pyrite) but if you wanted, you could fudge it a little by using Miror B., since he could potentially have a number of different Shadow Pokemon and travels around.

You could have the bar fight take place at the Krabby Club.

Good setup for both Chris/Jen and the league. I think I'm already intrigued by their relationship, from how you're describing it. When it comes to the league, since Pyrite is going to be the mandatory starting point, do Duking and/or Silva have anything to do with it?

I think I'd need more details to really give feedback when you're bringing the friends into it.

I'm interested to see what you do for The Under.

When you say "endgame," do you mean it's the final one that winning the others is the qualifying task for? If so, there's three options you can make decent arguments for: Orre, Realgam Tower or Citadark Isle. If I had to pick my personal preference, it would be Realgam Tower, since not only is it a Colosseum, it's a hotel resort too, so you have facilities built in for the visiting public and press.

I'll figure out something for them. I'll give more thought to it and post some ideas here.

I forgot that the Krabby Club existed, to be honest. I've primarily been looking at Pyrite and Phenac City, but was thinking of placing the fight in Pyrite or Outskirt Stand. Thanks for reminding me!

Thanks. Hopefully it'll continue to be an interesting relationship As for Duking and Silva, the goal is to have both of them involved, though Duking will be officially Mayor if he isn't already. He's come back to Pyrite after discovering that wild Pokemon are returning to Orre on their own now.

I'm either thinking of assembling a character task force to tackle The Under, or having Chris and Jen traveling down there themselves. There aren't any plans to include Cipher in full capacity at the moment, but I'm considering using Miror B. and Lovrina for the ORI.

Pretty much. I'm leaning towards Realgam Tower too since it was the actual endgame. Orre will probably be the Victory Road, and I'll figure out what to do with Citadark Isle. Thanks again for your input.

Let's discuss how you write. Are you a pantser [someone who just writes as they go] or do you like some structure?

I generally am a pantser, but recently have found that taking a lot of time to set a foundation, not a lot, helps me stay on track and even create sturdier ideas than I originally had.

I am also attempting the snowflake method. I like it so far and when it comes to writing Pokemon fic, for me, it can be difficult to get a clear idea of how to be intriguing and interesting.

If you do some foundation building, how do you like to do it? (Before I did this I did make a lot of meta-docs that contained brainstorming and annotations of my work). If you're a pantser, do you ever get burnt out on stories that you're writing? Do you think you'll ever try doing some pre-gaming for your writing?
>>
>>24745726
With that image being a stern warning that we should avoid getting into software arguments that go nowhere, I'm going to say:
"I imagine a circumstance, I dream about it until it finds something interesting to say, and the rest is just figuring out the best way to explain what happened."
>>
>>24745726
I start with an inkling of an idea, it could be something I saw, read, watched, and usually it'll strike something that would make me go "Hey, that would make a good story idea."

Then I think about it, usually come up with how I'd like the story to begin and end while not coming up with anything in the middle for how to get from start to finish. Then when I have those ideas, usually what happens is I'll write them out on my "idea" document if I feel like I don't have enough to go on this leads to me not working on it at all or if I'm really feeling it, I'll just go to town and spend a few hours writing.

9/10 times I'll think of an idea nonstop for days maybe weeks without actually beginning it. Mainly because my biggest issue is I never know how to begin. And the only time that I do, is when I'm laying in bed with my eyes closed trying to sleep. That's when I get good sentence structure going, but getting up and readying to put those paragraphs on the computer winds up making my mind go blank.

Sucks.
>>
>>24745726
I really like to make an outline that firmly establishes at least the characters and world. Typically I do the same for the plot, but I have no problem with it meandering a little as long as there's a goal in mind.

You can spot many pantsers by the consistency of their characters. Writing characters without planning them first often results in them being indistinct or defined by a single standout trait that attempts to cover up for a lack of depth.
>>
>>24746138
I'm a lot like this. With outlines and notes before writing the actual story helps a lot with keeping the goals in mind and helps mold twists and turns and they're pretty flexible with changes due to inspiration and ideas.

Pantsers also are pretty bad with timeline management and understanding. I've read a lot of fics where they either never address time, address it incessantly, or have unrealistic expectations of things to happen in an allotted time.
>>
>>24742624
I'll get to this soon, I promise.

>>24743990
Glad to help. Sounds like you're figuring things out pretty well.

>>24745726
I put together a file describing what has to happen in the chapter in a rough order. Sometimes it changes while I write but I try to at least be vaguely prepared.
>>
>>24745726
I'm the guy currently writing Redemption Frontier, and for me, my writing is a mixture of both.

I know, structural, how my story will go. I set up "tent pole" plot points in my head for the chapter, and I fill the rest in.

This gives you more natural-acting characters. If they feel like standing somewhere for an hour, let them. But eventually get them to where they need to be.
I find this helps with cutting out expository dialogue, since you need to fill in gaps which aren't quite important to the plot.

Also, I find, for me personally, that not planning the in between bits means it's no longer a task to write my story out, because I don't know how it's going to go.
It's the little surprises you discover along the way that will your writing interesting for you and, in turn, your readers.
>>
>>24745726
What is that program? It all looks horribly complicated.
>>

Snowflake Method Program, you must help this person more! Your neural net processor is our only hope!
>>
My pro-Team Plasma fic writing continues. Hope to have the first chapter up soon.
>>
>>24748341
It's not the snowflake program. I am simply using the snowflake method.

It's Scrivener or some shit like that. It's 25 bucks, but it's easy to crack (or so says my friend who provided me with the copy) if you don't want to spend the money. There's also a 30 day trial if you want to try it.

It's complexity varies on how you design. If you have no desire to break up your chapters into scenes, have cohesive outlines, customized meta-data, keyword searching, storyboards, or other arbitrary shit (which it, by definition, is), then it won't serve any purpose. If you are super comfy with just annotation by comments or seperate meta docs or are just a pantser, you need not research on this program or others like it.

If you are interested in meta-documents and prefer your shit to be streamlined into one location, then scrivener and shit like it are pretty good and don't attempt to be anything it's not. It literally just allows you to have a visual representation of your thoughts. In my picture you'll see I like to break up my chapters into scenes since it helps with outlining, plans, and change, the latter of which happens constantly.

Hell, my elevator summary has changed almost completely since I screenshotted that.

I find, this is unrelated to the program, that pantsing a story from beginning to end is either a mess or 'the end' never happens, at least not smoothly (and I don't mean smoothly as in it wasn't a happy ending), rather there is a lot of quick knot tying and sloppy boarding up of plot holes (and many are missed). More often than not though I write myself into walls or uninteresting gimmicks and I usually lose interest myself. I find it hard to believe I'm the only one who struggles with that when pantsing.
>>
>>24751172
I totally get that with pantsing.

But the key with pantsing is to have a direction, i.e: an ending. People who write stories without an ending in mind amaze me - I don't know how they do it.
Whenever I pants, I just make sure that whatever scene or dialogue I'm writing will:

a) lead towards the ending of the story
b) be tied-up before the ending
or
c) not effect the ending in the slightest (this is usually the stuff that gets culled the most)

You can avoid pantsing yourself into a corner if you follow the guidelines you set for your story.
>>
>>24751946
>a,b, and c
Easier said than done. Not ever changing the ending is also a pretty bad rule. Changing is part of the writing process, no first idea is ever the best and sticking to that rule leads to bad writing I think since you stay so cemented in that ending that you have to make characters or elements of the plot skew to fit that design.

The rest is just difficult to do when writing without design. It's like a fling, it's holy-fuck fun in the beginning and everything seems pretty fuckin' perfect. Then a short bit down the line and it's just like: wtf is this and fuck dealing with this dumb shit, never made sense to begin with.

Best case scenario, that I've witnessed from others and myself, is a halfassed attempt to be interesting.
>>
>>24752043
Of course, I never meant to imply that not changing the ending is good. Otherwise the story wouldn't flow as well.

However, you should know some point down the line how the story will end. I personally find it hard to keep the direction of the story intact without doing it.

As for the beginning bit being fun and the middle going awry, yeah this happens to everyone. It sucks. But, I take it back to the characters and their values/wants/needs and think of ways to test them. Conjure up an event or something that will test their beliefs.

Voila, instant complication.

However, if you're finding it difficult to think of complications, you should consider your story and ask yourself if it needs to be as long as a novel.
Like, is there enough character development here to sustain an 80, 000 word piece?

Lastly, having a solid ending and direction in mind makes it easier to create red herrings and twists
>>
>>24752132
>Not ever changing the ending is also a pretty bad rule.
I think some clarification is required here. "The Ending" is the end to which "how it ends" is a means. The Ending must not (essentially) change once the writing is well underway because it justifies the events described throughout the entire work. How it ends must be expected to change as the plot develops during writing; if it didn't change, then the plot failed to develop unless you literally had every plot point plotted in your mind at inception.

For those interested, I'd like to start a small repository of dictionaries to add to Libreoffice. Including such things as the names of Pokémon, berries, locations, Mega Stones, items in general.

If possible it will cover both English and Spanish (mi gloriosa lengua nativa).

Besides posting the one with items and berries, since Saikou asked for it, what should I focus on?

(inb4 "go back to writing")

I guess items and locations would be a good place to start. I never shared my Pokemon dictionary, I think, so here you go everyone:

I like training my spell checker. It's something like the games, but where I expand my 'dex by one each time I mention an afore-unmentioned species and add it to the exceptions list. Gotta add 'em all!

>>español
I've occasionally wondered if non-English amateur fiction suffers from the same (but different obviously) writing fails. Like, is there a spanish version of your/you're that instantly knocks a fic down a letter grade when it inevitably appears? When I get feedback from international readers, I consider that sometimes my prose is too overwrought for an English-fluent audience, and I then wonder how much of my material is glossed over or skipped outright due to occasional ten-dollar-word spills and sentences that require two sheets of paper to diagram.
>>
>>24779624
>español
>the same writing fails
Yeah, there's quite the fails though on the grammar side most of them rely on not using the correct variant of a word that can use acute modifier, eg.: "solo"=alone vs "sólo"=only, or the more extreme case of "aya"=wet nurse vs "halla"="third-person find vs "allá"=there vs "baya"=berry vs "valla"=fence vs "haya"=have had. We also have things like our own version of "could of" and our subjunctives are weird. I sometimes scare Unown with them.

Writing side... suffices to say that at least during the late 2000s much of the focus of the amateur Pokémon fanfic writing in Spanish was in shipping fics, and most of them were misunderstood attempts at revenge fics. Oh and due to the nuances of the language we very likely have our own version of Farla out there.

There's lots of fun to be had.
>>
>>24779783
Oh, I forgot vs. "vaya"= wow / interesting vs "vaya"=conditional "to go" vs "vaya"=subjunctive "to go" vs "vaya"="what a [noun]...", and I think I got all of them now.

Maybe.

Alright guys, I'm looking for a good story to read. I've gone through the recommendations here, and I'm not really feeling like wading through the crap on FF and stuff.

Anyone know of any good stories, preferably PMD-based or in a Pokemon perspective?
>>

>I've gone through the recommendations here
> preferably PMD-based
You've probably seen them in the catalog already then, but just in case you haven't:

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10131562/1/If-I-Was-Just-a-Little-Braver
Stars a Riolu and an Eevee going on wacky adventures. Starts out as a loose reimagining of the Explorers games, but begins to diverge much more into its own thing a few chapters in. It's a little slow to start, but definitely quality once it takes off. Rumor has it the author is working on a rewrite, though, so it might not get any further than it has already.

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11084689/1/Fledglings
Best described (by the author himself) as a Saturday morning cartoon fic, follows the adventures of a newly-formed rescue team trying to work their way up the ranks of their guild. The team accidentally awakens a baby Lugia - supposed to be the protector of their island - and winds up having to watch after him since he's just a kid. A little rompy, just as lighthearted as Braver, but also gets a bit dark from time to time. Also very much worth a read.

Then there's Power Trip, which isn't in the catalog:
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10483318/1/Pok%C3%A9mon-Mystery-Dungeon-Power-Trip
Follows the PMD formula of a human becoming a Pokemon to help the world through a crisis, but isn't based on any specific game. A strange thunderstorm grants every Electric-type in the area a massive power boost, causing an imbalance that allows them to wreak havoc and overthrow their local leaders. Notable for having some of the best battle scenes in a PMD fic I've ever read, and also makes very much use of the MC getting used to his new Pokemon body.
>>
>>24788592
Yeah I've definitely been through the first two, Fledglings is one I've been keeping tabs on since the start. I'll check Power Trip though, sounds pretty interesting!

Thanks for the help though, I've been on a bit of a kick recently after powering through a few decent stories recently (one called "The End" by which I'd highly recommend: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11220566/1/The-End).

Alternatively, I have found a couple decent quality PMD web comics of considerable length. If /v/ so wishes, I can post the links to them I have open on tabs.

------
Now then, I am also looking for a couple fics that I haven't been able to find since I lost track of them.
Not sure if they are deleted or not, but I would appreciate some assistance in locating these fics if possible.
I've trawled through Fanfiction.net with a painful attention to try and find them, yet no luck. I have written up a doc. with information of what I found most memorable about them as reference.

If you don't mind /v/, I would appreciate if you could help aid in this search. Fanfiction.net makes it a bitch to search through.
>>
>>24791426

Here are the descriptions.

Unfortunately the actual name of these fics, as well as their author's names elude me. Thus I can only provide a memory of what I found most prominent about them, plus the estimated word count and time it was originally posted and read.

-----

1. A Torchic Transformation story. The plot revolves around a depressed high school student who committed suicide with a handgun out of bitterness and despair in a Cafeteria in front of multiple students. The student in question ends up being reborn a Torchic by some quirk of chance for reasons currently unknown. Protagonist hatches from an egg that was supposed to be a gift to him by another "friend" who was wanting to cheer him up, even one that might have been antagonistic to the protagonist at one point. Said friend is bitter after friend's suicide.

Suicide is covered up by the school to preserve its reputation. Originally found on Fanfiction.net. Ciera. 2008-2009 when first discovered. Estimated length at last read was roughly around 20,000 to 50,000 words. Might have been longer.

2. A Chikorita Transformation story. Protagonist is killed by a car after rescuing another individual. Mew, taking pity on this individual, decides for him to be reborn as a Chikorita. This ends up takng out the soul meant for an egg however. (Preumably from what can be inferred from memory, it might have been a gift to him at one point.) Protagonist ends up becoming his friend's starter Pokemon. (Female friend.) Side effect of rebirth is a new phobia of cars, or more specifically being a passenger of one when looking out a window with the vehicle in motion.

Distinct scenes include the clickity clits of the protagonist's "hoof nails" on a concrete sidewalk, taking four strides for his new master/friend/trainer's one. Discovers he is increasingly vulnerable to the cold elements.
Ciera. 2008-2010 estimated to be have been first discovered. Estimated story length: 20,000 to 40,000 last checked.
>>
>>24791426
Links would be cool, yeah.
>>
>>24791457

Additional notes on...

1. Protagonist was possibly bullied.

2. Mew is indeed distrught over the sacrifice of the Chikorita's soul. But it was it that, or the Chikorita ended up feeling neglected and feeling responsible for it's trainer's sad state and end up dying.

And lastly.

4. Pokemon: Real World dimension jump to the fictional world inhabited by Pokemon. High School girl bored with life ends up being co-opted by mysterious individuals who may or may not have abducted her due to the protagonist having some special ability that these people (Science types.) do not. Said scientists are from another dimension. Protagonist features some form of healing ability that is unnatural to this world. For this reason, she was brought to it so that she may help mend the conflict currently taking place on that world. Girl ends up on a Journey to heal the region plauged by conflict of the war variety between two factions (Teams if memory served correctly, albeit original ones.) Region and factions appear to be original creations. Partnered with a shiny female Rattata. (Might have been given a name.) Rattata able to converse in English with protagonist. (Might have been same with the others.) World somewhat realistic, featuring firearms. >Pt.1
>>
>>24791475

>Pt.4 Continued.

Notable events: Confrontation with scientists who the girl at first considers nuts when they tell her Pokemon are real. Ends up beleving them when a female head scientist shows her a picture of a pet Delicaty. (If memory serves correctly.) Ended up becoming drunk by the world's milk at one point due to AlterWorld's milk having alcoholic affects on her, but not natives due to some strange dimensional tolerence and content differences between the two dimensions. Latest chapter at last read showed the protagonist first employing her healing ability in action to heal wounded soldier militants in a region where a battle took place. Might have been warned by Rattata not to do so for fear of being used by the two militant factions vying for control over the region. (Might have been due to ideological differences.) Featured on Fanfiction.net. Ciera. Late 2008 - Mid 2009 - 2010 when first discovered.
Estimated length at the time: 50,000 to 70,000 words.

>>24791460
You got it. Just give me time to compile the links and I will post them here.
>>
>>24791492

For the record, this character limit can go fuck itself. Here is another story that wasn't posted to Fanfiction.net. Problem is....

3. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Fanfic discovered around 2008/2009 on the now defunct Bulbagarden Library. (Last Check on site indicates it was undergoing revision with its host site, ciera. 2012. Presumed dead.) Story was based off of Pokemon Blue & Red Rescue Team. Main Character is a human turned Pikachu (Alvin, Colab as names?) who has amnesia. Other characters was most certainly a Chikorita with a rather fiesty attitude, and either a Squirtle or Mudkip. Somewhat of a cowardly/reluctant nature, but good hearted and willing. Protagonist male. Chikorita female. Squirtle/Mudkip male. (Note: Bolded underline indicates stronger memory likelihood/certainty of being the correct one, but not for absolutely sure if true.) Story was last seen as being completed, with a sequel in the works. Friends were evolved in that story.

Estimated length at the time last read: Medium-Long, presumed roughly between 60,000 to over around 100,000 words. Length is MUCH shorter than stories like PMD: The Silver Resistance and PMD: Broken Ideals, but still a rather considerable read.

I'm tidying up a contest submission for release now that the results were published. One-shot, something small and simple and cute.

Also I'm writing a longer story, working title "Interim", though I'm not sure how should I classify it. Rather than a many-chaptered journeyfic or the like, it will more closely follow the release formatting of recent British police procedurals and crime drama, with a short number (4 or 5) of noticeably long episodes, each telling its own story at the same time they build up the larger plot. I guess for now "miniseries" will do.

>>24707168 This guy here. My post on the old thread is gone, so just gonna recap what I'd said.

I'm working on a fic based around the adventure of two protagonists. I have plans for it to be a really long story, and since I'm creating an entire region here, I'd like a sequel or two.

The story itself will follow these two protagonists, along with some other major, important characters, journeying through a new region I'm making myself. For the sake of convenience for everyone, this region wont have it's own native Pokemon, but rather a mix made mostly of Hoenn and Sinnoh species since that's where the region, Kaisu, is closest to. Typical adventure - defeat the eight gyms, the elite four, the champion, with a new evil team on the rise.

What I'm currently working on now is short descriptions of all the major, recurring characters for reference. After that, I'll be writing three short synopses, a few paragraphs long, which I'll be releasing as "promos" for the story. These synopses would give a short glimpse of what the region will be like with a map, what the protagonists will be like, and most vague of all, what the antagonists will be like. I've been taking it slow but at this pace I could very well have chapter one out in early January.

I think it's almost time to actually start writing the fantasy fic idea I've had in mind for over a year. I had scraps here and there of story but I've never actually gotten anything down more than a few pages despite having a grand scheme for things.

As a very simplified synopsis, it's going to be a classic fantasy adventure set in medieval-ish Kalos. The main protagonists are a mage and his feisty Braixen companion who get roped into going on a quest to obtain a mega keystone and become the next Sucessors. Their goal is to defeat the enemy "team", who are a cult centered around harnessing the power of Xerneas and Yveltal in order to become gods.

Thoughts?

I think you should count the words in all those scraps and *try*—I know, "Grand Scheme", it'll pick its teeth with your bones— writing the story as a short of that length. Your scattered sheets of paper are a symptom of having many ideas and no connective tissue, so you must practice making a small but cohesive prototype, lest you wind up with scattered chapters lying about and still no story but also tired typing fingers.

this sounds familiar. Have you come up with a title?

Make sure that you have a firm grasp of what goes down in your plot before you put pen to paper. And I say this as someone who had to cut the fic I'm working on down to the first third of the original idea behind it simply because it was way too long and unfocused.

Wouldn't be so bad if artists actually finished their fucking Mystery Dungeon fanfiction/comics, and didn't insert their fetishes 24/7.

Thank you. I actually have a pretty simplified version of what goes down and early on in the story not much is revealed, allowing for a good deal of the exposition to be done as a short story. What I'll probably do is try to get those early parts down and functioning independently, then work on expanding the story as I see fit if it works out okay.

Not yet. I published an early draft to this thread around this time last year, so you may have seen it. If you saw a similar fic somewhere else then it was total coincidence.

Okay, since I said I would do it and I'm not a liar, just a person who omits certain information when convenient.

Here are some dictionary files for LibreOffice / OpenOffice. These cover Pokémon names, item names, berry names and other stuff in English. Stuff in Glorioso Español will come later.

This is temporary until I decide where and how to better organize this stuff. Maybe a fossil / git(hub) repo somewhere, or something, so that development and improvements can be followed.

Considering how these threads usually are I'm really struggling to resist the obvious joke here.

C'mon, man. I wasn't gonna say anything at all. We were all thinking it.

Oh man, that story. Yeah I think the other title is pretty accurate. If you think it's bad now, just wait until the last ten or so chapters.

I've already finished reading it. I probably want to kill myself more now than before.

>planning a cute PSMD fic that takes place after the events of the game
>don't want to discard important events that happened at the end
>don't want to alienate potential readers who haven't finished the game with casual plot spoilers
I haven't even started writing and I'm, already stuck.

Thinking about what you're doing is creative writing kryptonite. Brain off, typewriter on, get busy.
