Finally found my first shiny in ORAS after two hours of DexNav spamming on route 101.
So, to celebrate, let's have a shiny thread.

i'm new to shiny hunting. i keep breaking my dexnav chain around 10-15. tried the whole bunnyhoppinh on arco bike to try and keep the chain but can't seem to do it. any tips?

Dexnav chaining does not affect odds on a shiny. The chain only applies to the level of the pokemon you're encountering and the possibility of having ha, good IVs, etc.
Dexnav is a flat increase in shiny odds to 1/512 without the shiny charm.

Chain fishing is bar none the fastest method for a shiny. It should no joke take 10 minutes.
But they're honestly worthless because of how easy they are to get and you probably won't appreciate it as much as getting one theough another method.
Dexnav would be inbetween chain fishing and breeding. I would say if what you really care for is just having a shiny, but don't care about it being perfect, just keep dexnaving.
If it helps for motivation, I don't have the charm and encountered two shinies at 194 and 398 encounters using dexnav. Just keep at it.

Just caught this bad boy in a Dive Ball 2 minutes ago. 686 SRs for it also.
My first shiny was a zigzagoon, the problen was i didn't notice and i sent him to the box.
That was in Emerald, i sold that game 7 years ago bc i didn't care.
Now i feel stupid bc since that my second shiny was a sandile in X, and i lost the game while travelling.
My third shiny and the one i still have is a honedge.
My first shiny was a Tentacool in Soulsilver.
In Alpha Sapphire I got a shiny Feebas, Tentacool and Forretress.
I think I fucked up all my shiny hunts of the legendaries in oras...
I didn't know about synchronize/nature thing...
Am I fucked? Is it a big deal if the natures of my shinys aren't ideal?

Suicune guy here. You have a 50% chance of getting a legendary with the right nature if you Synch, but if you're not gonna use them competitively, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Has it been decided if the shiny charm helps or not with hatching? Everywhere I look it says there still aren't any definitive results on shiny odds for most methods
I feel bad because I have 6 shiniest and my best friend who has been playing as long as me hasn't ran into one. How do I make it up to him /vp/oreons?

He's offered a couple 6IVs for some of his favorites if I find any. The trouble is that most of his favorites he hates the shiny for (absol, garchomp, typhlosion, etc) and the ones that he likes are only late in the game like tyranitars prevos

I assume you have X/Y, but I think there's still a FS thread going if you want to find a Pupitar; otherwise you'd have to breed for Larvitar. I feel the same about Houndoom's shiny, but shiny Absol honestly isn't that bad.

DexNAV seems to hate me. I constantly see people finding shinies around the hundred encounters mark but my Zorua took 600 and I'm up to 400 for Ralts with nothing yet.

I've got shiny Luxray, Nidorina, Crobat, and Golbat. I don't count the event and story ones, but of those I have shiny beasts, Rayquaza, Gyarados. I think there are a few I'm missing. Usually I don't go looking for them, I just get happy when they show up.

I SR for 3 weeks for a shiny suicune in oras
Finally got one and had 100 dive balls and like 50 something ultra
I put it to sleep and got it to 1hp
Not a single dive ball caught it and I started freaking out. It then broke out of every ultra ball as well

Oh, but I have many more shinies, all from GTS trades
I send out a well oiled machine with god nature and IVs aong with pokerus and ask for just a Latios, I get a shiny Timid 6IV, of course it was hacked, but I wasn't the the one doing the hacking therefore
This went on to happen at least 7 more times
Although my favorite shiny is this Umbreon which someone was just dumping out because "perfect natures or gtfo"

Never saw or caught a shiny in all of gen 6 with 3 different playthroughs
How much time do you guys take to get a shiny in a game prior to Gen 6?
I was replaying White 2 and noticed how the second floor of the Celestial Tower has a 100% rate for Litwick, I don't have the shiny charm because I still am in the main adventure, 1900 fights later I still didn't found the little guy.
By my calculations I can find 2~3 Litwicks per minute (it would be consistently faster if I could use the bike), 110~130 Litwicks per hour and around 1100~1200 if I waste 10 fucking hours, even this number still is pretty mediocre compared to the 1/8000 natural rate for shinies (which STILL is not guaranteed even if I hit 8000).
So I was wondering if any of you guys tries to get shinies in older games, and if so, how much time?

I soft reset in heart gold for a shiny starter and got a cyndiquil. That was easier because it was 3/ and it was relatively quick to do. But I do it on and off, I may have done 200 resets then got bored and not touched it for a few days. Overall I think it took about 3000 resets
