I think they play a bit more conservative to make it easier to follow for dumb kids.
Back on Pokemon Smash, Yamamoto won the finals of the last tournament with the level 1 Aron strategy and mentioned on Twitter afterwards that he did it because of how cool it'd look on TV to kids that had no idea you could do this.
