Fighting two grunts with 2 level 26 Arboks each, and then Gio who has 6 ~30s with movesets that can't be legitimately achieved is really poor game design. If everyone were tougher, that would be much better, or even just gym/dungeon trainers.

Advice for Dray's hacks?
-Don't be afraid to grind; you will NEED to be at least 5 levels above the gym leaders
-Protect can save your life
-Use tanks/stalling teams. Sweepers tend to die
-Don't hesitate to switch. Whenever you KO one of their Pokémon, always assume that the AI is bringing a Pokémon that will have a supereffective move against yours. Most of the time this will be true
-In the later stages of the games, a lot of trainers will pack set up strats : Nasty Plot, Swords Dance, Tail Glow you name it. So if you think you can OHKO on the first turn go for it otherwise you might be fucked
tl;dr Basically treat every fight as you would a gym leader fight. Never get greedy/overconfident. Also, hope to be lucky with your catches. Use repels to access the best spots of a catching area
