Well, I don't think a separate board just for battling would be necessary, it's a sport just like all the others, just put it in /sp/ with everything else. Other sports DO exist in the pokeworld.
The rest would not be that different, I think. I admit I'm stumped as to what contests and such would count as, so maybe that'd be something different.

There are also doctor/nurse trainers. Just because you want to get a career in one field doesn't mean you have to focus solely on that field. It's like the real world. If you want to be a surgeon but you also enjoy painting or writing, don't stop yourself from not doing both. Plus, I think it would be safer in the Pokemon world to have a team and at least some experience fighting. You might need to defend yourself or others from wild Pokemon/trainers.

Did you play RSE? Remember that Devon Corp guy who was being attacked by an Aqua/Magma grunt? Who was useless and had to rely on a little kid to protect him because he couldn't fight back. Even if you only have a simple team and basic battle knowledge, you'd be able to protect yourself in this sort of situation.
