Put on GTS a Pokemon that can only be found on your game.
Example: If you're requesting for Seedot you may have AS. Pokémon exclusive of AS: Lotad line, Sableye, Lunatone, Kyogre.
Or if you have a Meowth line or a Stantler (which can't be caught on Kalos but are found on pretty rare Mirage Islands)

I'll assume you've gotten to the point of having Wally catch his Ralts and have gotten the PlayNav module. Open up the Pokemon Search System in the PlayNav module and after we've added each other, you'll see me on your friends list. We should be able to trade from there.

This. It doesn't even have to be a starter or popular. Almost anything, hell maybe even ANY mon will get traded. If you get desperate put up a starter/popular mon like this anon said or even a trade evo. It's stupid to look for what you want/need on the GTS.

There's a filter that blocks out Special Pokemon (all the event Pokemon, Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza). That pretty much filters most of the unreasonable requests.
There's also another filter that only shows Pokemon you have. Combine it with the above filter and pretty much all the request will always be reasonable. I guess you can store your legendaries in Pokemon Bank if you have it too, so that they don't show up in the search when you apply the "Pokemon you have" filter.
